The sun is 865,370 mi across, which is nearly 15,230,512 football fields! The sun is made of mainly helium and hydrogen. Can you believe that the gas in the sun is the same gas used to blow up balloons?

The Sun

1 day on the sun, depending on where you are is 29 days long! That's almost a month on Earth!
Did you know the Sun has a crown? Well, not that type of crown. It is also called the Corona, it is the outermost layer of the sun where you can see solar prominences, mass ejections, and flares.

Fun Facts:
The sun accounts for over 99% of our solar systems mass!
How many Earth's do you think could fit inside the sun?

Answer: 1 million
The sun is very close to being a perfect sphere
The sun is 9,930 F degrees!

Comets

Comets are made of dust, ice, and rocks. These comets are found in the Kuiper Belt which is beyond Neptune. Did you know that only 3,743 comets have been counted? But there are thought to be so many more beyond our reach. A comet has 4 parts, the Nucleus, the coma, the ion tail, and the dust tail.

Asteroids
Asteroids are composed of rock, metals, and some other materials. Asteroids are mainly found between Mars and Jupiter, orbiting the sun. They are sometimes called minor planets and were created during the formation of our solar system. Can you believe there are around 1.5 million asteroids in our solar system? They can even be 530 kilometers across, but the smaller ones are about 10 meters across!

Ceres
Ceres is the smallest dwarf planet in our solar system. It is 2.4 Astronomical Units from the sun, and is 587.82 miles in diameter! 1 day on Ceres is 1,682 Earth days and a year is 4.6 Earth years! Isn't that crazy? Some of the dwarf planets have moons but Ceres unfortunately has none.
