Dara and her family are trying to reach the secret underground society called Nong Chan because of the interstellar war.  When they arrive they find out that the secret civilization has enough defensive weapons which they could use to defend the border along with enough fried chicken and other assorted fast foods(and vegetables if you were wondering) to feed the family for years.

As soon as they made it underground they were met by a young teenager named Nea. She explained how her parents along with her cousin's parents were in the bank when the interstellar soldiers came. Her brothers were recruited into the army where they were killed. Her grandma was a spy but had a heart attack mid-mission. Dara’s mom explained how her husband was killed because he was teaching kids how to hack into the AI mainframe to shut them down.

At dinner, Nea introduced what was left of her family. Grandpa Kem, a retired general from the Air Force, Jantu, her cousin who had led the child resistance at her old boarding school, and her baby cousin Nebut, who is referred to as Baby, who invented a new kind of laser by accidentally drooling on his parents experimental serum.

Sarun, Dara’s older brother, had fallen in love with Nea after seeing her slaughter a chicken with her bare hands. He stared at her and embarrassed her.  This was before dinner. In the morning, Dara went to help Jantu who was serving as lookout.

Later, after a few days, Dara’s family and Jantu’s family became a team and went to the food distributions where they received more weapons and… their own lifetime supply of fried chicken. That same day, Sarun started flirting with Nea and Jantu and Dara hoped they’d get married.

A while later, Jantu started making “toys”. She made her own barbie dolls and her own machine guns. One day she made a really cool barbie doll that came with its own mini machine gun that could actually kill someone. Sadly, a war orphan named Chnay (he lost his family in the rush to escape their old home) destroyed it. Jantu didn’t mind. She instead made a clay marble. She became interested in pottery and started making stuff. She actually made a clay village to represent what she and Dara hoped their lives would be like in the future.

In the rush to escape Nong Chan, Dara and Jantu ended up at the KFC food truck. They opened a NBA box and a Twister. They were also about to drink the coke when they realized that the boxes were empty!! All of a sudden the place went up in flames. Baby was hurt.

Dara found help and Jantu ended up going to the hospital to look after Baby.

Dara was separated from her family and went back to the underground camp where she met an old man who showed her the way to the KFC food truck stop. She made it and from there she went to the secret spot where Dara and Jantu had put their village. She assumed her family would be there but upon reaching the area she saw no one.

She began to cry when Chnay approached her. After conversing for a while, the two started off to the Khmer Serei base camp which was led by Kung Silor. This was because Chnay said some soldiers took her family there for safety.  They walked along the path. They eventually found a small, abandoned army hut in which they slept in. In the morning after breakfast they walked until finally they found it. 

Upon reaching it they decided to walk in circles around the camp. They started with the largest circles(which are the ones that are on the outskirts of the camp) to the smallest(which are the ones on the interior of the camp).

One day, Dara smelled the most amazing smell in the whole world. She smelled… Mongolian KFC(which according to the internet is the best KFC in the world.[or at least out of 24 countries and 5 continents]). She signaled Chnay and they immediately started planning on how they were going to steal it. 

They ran into a problem though. There was a robo monkey at the door. They threw some scrap metal at it and it began eating. Chnay inched towards the chicken. He had just grabbed it when the robo monkey started blaring sirens from its speakers. One of the chefs saw them and dragged them to Kung Silor. During the “lecture” if you can call it that, Kung Silor became impressed with Dara’s attitude and spirit and hired her as an assistant cook.

Chnay spent all of his days searching for Dara’s family while Dara worked in the kitchen. One day Dara was told to fry the chicken for the meals. Everything was going great until she realized that the chickens weren’t roosters, they were hens. She told the cook and the cook got mad and said that they had killed all the roosters already and they had to use the hens to feed the soldiers. 

Dara was so upset because those hens were supposed to be laying eggs so that the children could eat things besides chicken. They were also supposed to be laying eggs so that they could have more roosters to cook and eat. She was so angry that she ran away when all of a sudden, someone called her. When she turned around she saw her mother and she hugged her. She enjoyed feeling her mother’s warm loving arms around her again.
