As Chinese Immigrants being preferred for labor on the Transcontinental Railroad in the 1860s, many Americans start to  develop a strong hostility to Chinese  immigrants. In 1845 congress replaced it with the Kansans- Nebraska act which led opponents to form the Republican party and opened Kansas and Nebraska to white settlement and allowed for settlers to determine weather or not they wanted slavery in the new territory through popular sovereignty
