Chapter 1: Moving
Hi, my name is Carmen and I am moving to New York City. I'm not happy, everybody else is happy, but not me. I want to stay home in Kansas. "How much longer?" I ask. "Only 10 more hours," responded Mom. "Why are we moving again?" "Your father got a job there. So we had to move," answered Mom.
"We're here! We're finally at the pier," said Mom. "Why are we at the pier?" I ask. "To see the ocean." "Mom, why can’t we go to the beach and go swimming". "No, dear. We're only here to look for a few minutes and then we're getting back on the road," said Mom. "Ok," I say.
A Few Hours Later. . .
"We're here at the Burns house!" "What did you call it?" I ask. "The Burns house," Mom repeated. "That's a weird name," I admit. "It may be a weird name," said Mom, "But it's our home now. And it's the home we're gonna live in for a while." I didn't like living in this new place, but I was gonna have to get over it.
Chapter 2: First Day of School
Today's my first day of school and I'm SO nervous! Will I make friends? Or will I not? Will I be popular? Or will I not? To be honest, I don't want to find out. "Hey, Mom," I say, "Can I not go to school today?" "What," said Mom, "Why wouldn't you go to school?" Well, I tried.
Currently at School. . .
As I walked down the hallway, everyone stared at me. They probably knew I wasn't from here by the way I looked. No one talked to me. I was lonely. Even at lunch. No one sat with me. That's when I realized I didn't belong here. I need to look different if I want to feel like I belong here. I need a glow-up.
Chapter 3: My Glow-Up
"I can't believe I'm about to do this," I say to myself looking in my bathroom mirror. "But I have to if I ever want to fit in."
"Whoa," I say "I'm. . . beautiful." "Carmen," said Mom time to go to school!" "Oh, no! Mom can't find out," I say, searching for a jacket. Finally, I found a sweatshirt that would cover my now blue hair.
When I walked around the school grounds, everyone (again) stared at me but this time with adoration. Not the "You're a Freak" stare. "Hey," said a boy, "Are you the new girl?" "Yeah," I say, "I am." "I'm Ethan," he said. "I'm Carmen," I say. "You wanna sit with me at lunch today?" "I don't see why not," I say. "Kay," said Ethan, "See you around."
Everyone complimented me on my hair that day of school. The only question is: How do I tell Mom about it?
