This story takes you through Manchester City's attempt at reaching the goal of every soccer team.
Manchester City was seeking to win the treble.. something only seven teams had previously done from a list of over 1,000 European clubs. While the odds were heavily stacked against them, the club knew they had to find a way to do so.

The story begins much before the current season Manchester City is partaking in. You see, up until 2008 Manchester City was a club who had minor success domestically, but was mostly struck with devastating seasons. City fans knew a change was coming when Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed purchased the team in 2008. A man from great riches would heavily ivest in the team's future.

However, while Manchester City was in fact able to find domestic success by winning the Premier League and FA Cup on various occasions, the club was never able to go within striking distance of the UEFA Champions League and reach their goal.

Sheikh Mansour knew changes had to be made. While buying new star players was helping he understood that what the club needed was beyond that. In 2016 he ultimately made a pitch to legendary manager Pep Guardiola, who was already a treble winner during his FC Barcelona days, and convinced him to take charge of this challenging plan at Manchester City.

Guardiola's first year in charge of Manchester City was not one that was up to his standard. The club finished fourth in the Premier League and barely qualified for the Champions League. He was able to quickly change that by winning five of the next 6 Premier Leagues. While winning the Prem was 1/3 of the Treble done, th hardest was yet to be done.

Focus had to be shifted elsewhere now. The team needed its second of three gems and would seek to pair the Premier League title with the FA Cup. Manchester City was able to win both of these only in 2018/19. Combining different trophy wins was proving to be a challenging course. Manchester City was able to see double but not tripel just yet.

The third piece, the UEFA Champions League, proved to be Manchester City's kryptonite. No matter how much the club tried, their UCL campaign would always end in heartbreak. From offside goals to Covid, the team would always let down their fans. The team would be ridiculed for never having won the UCL, something many of City's rivals had already done. The team managed to reach one UCL final but lost to rivals Chelsea, showing how hard this battle can be.

Just as Pep Guardiola was hired as the genius mind to lead Manchester City off the field, they now needed a once-in-a-lifetime player to help them do it in the field. Man City signed young superstar and highly sought-after Erling Haaland to inch closer to the possibility of any Champions League success.

Manchester City started Haaland's debut season off strong with domestic success again. The team was able to pull a comeback Premier League win and secured Haaland's first trophy as a Manchester City striker and the first trophy on the way to the treble. Haaland is a lifelong City fan so his debut campaign was off to a great start and one to remember.

Manchester City was able to continue on their season success. The club fought hard and was able to claim the FA Cup. This secured a two-trophy season, something many clubs would be delighted with. However, Manchester City was still in search of the big trophy.
