This is dedicated to all those who built up this country and who sacrificed so much to lead us to where we are today.

The Native Americans Lifestyle-
Native American lifestyle consisted of a tribe. There were many native tribes such as the Lakota, Ute, Bannock, Mono, etc. In the tribes the elders made decisions and the chiefs advised them. The men of the tribe hunted while the women cooked, sewed clothes, and made tools all while tending to their children. Native Americans hunted and fished for all their food and gathered fruits and vegetables as well. When hunting they used such weapons as spears as well as bows and arrows. They practiced many forms of agriculture. When native Americans started to be subjected to reservations, it was almost like prisons. They were treated unfairly by many Americans and were not recognized as U.S citizens.
Massacre at Wounded Knee-
Estimated 150-300 Lakota were killed by U.S Army soldiers at the battle of wounded knee in South Dakota. While at Wounded knee creek a gun was discharged and the army began to fire, killing native women, men, and children. After this massacre, native american began to practice the "ghost dance" in hopes of ridding themselves and the world of white people. The Americans were terrified of this dance because they believed it was an act gesturing to war. The battle at wounded Knee was one of the deadliest mass shootings.
Native American; Sitting Bull -
Sitting Bull was a Native American chief in his later years. He joined his fist war party at 14 years of age. He was always seen as powerful at a young age and his great skills and respect led him to become the chief of the Lakota Tribe. He even united the Sioux tribes against white settlers on the plains. During the battle of little big horn, Sitting bull and the Sioux war parties claimed a victory against General Custer and his men. Later in 1890, Sitting bull was shot by a police officer on Standing Rock Indian reservation.
Lifestyle of cowboys and Vaqueros-
During the expansion and settlement of America, cowboys became a symbol of the west and played an important role in westward expansion. Cowboys were usually young men who needed money, they herded cattle, cared for horses, built fences/buildings, and ran big cattle runs. There were many types of cowboys but most had a reputation for being "lawless." A vaqueros was a Mexican native cowboy. They performed the same jobs as a cowboy and were hired as ranchers. When English settlers expanded to the west they attributed many of the Vaqueros culture, such as their styles. Cowboys and Vaqueros are what made the west, the west.
Problems with the railroad -
With amazing advancements in expansion comes some heavy costs, and many problems. For starters the railroad gave its workers terrible working conditions which led to many deaths and strikes. The railroad drove right through native American land and decimated their buffalo population (their main source of food) and their beautiful home lands. This often caused conflicts with the native's and the railroad. The railroad also had many schemes from big businessmen who payed little but invested heavily and "stole" money. They played many scams within the railroad.
