I used to think that learning with technology simply meant the teacher using the computer as a tool in the classroom.....but now I think it is about teaching students what to use technologically to improve their learning environment.
Learning with technology can increase a students out of classroom skills.
I used to think that productivity tools were mainly used by businesses and occasionally used by teachers to present and create content...but now I think that students learning the tools allows them greater independence in how they can show what they've learned.
Productivity tools help build a students independence.
I used to think that digital organization was primarily about how the teacher stored data and kept grades....but now I think that students learning to use digital organization sites like Pinterest can help increase students interest in topics covered in class.
Digital organization provides the student the opportunity to be curious out of school.
I used to think that digital citizenship didn't exist and cyberbullying was decreasing....but now I think that students need to be taught how to interact safely and correctly online in order to prepare them for the technological world they live in.
Digital citizenship is a way to teach students how to be safe online especially when outside of school.
I used to think that an infographic was a poster, a concept map was a good whole group activity, and that a storyboard didn't involve a computer....but now I think that all three of these can be used in multiple ways in the classroom. These tools can be used to assess the information being learned, to promote communication between students, and to highlight areas students may need further instruction in.
Tools like this are great for in classroom time.
I used to think that EdTech was complicated and above my skill level....but now I think EdTech such as Cacoo and Timetoast are very user friendly. They allow creativity in the classroom and are great to use in a small group, a whole group, or a one-on-one basis.
EdTech is a great classroom tool.
I used to think that Audio, Visual, ad Screencasting were intimidating to use...but now I think that while they are hard for me to understand, my students would be highly interested in demonstrating their knowledge through one of these methods.
Audio, Visual, and Screencasting is a great way to build students independence.
