    “Man this is a really cool looking fish,” said Billy. “I wonder who first discovered 

it?” he said. His mom said “Well why don’t we read and see who 

did”...                    

                          My name is Kent Jaw and I am a scuba explorer. I feel as if 

the ocean is a sparkling diamond. I feel like the ocean is happy when I go 

swimming. I love when the waves go “CRASH!” and “BOOM!” I work with the 

FNFA, the Finding New Fish Association. I am a 27 year old with brown hair and 

tanned skin. I work a partner who is a good friend of mine. His name is Bill Barl, 

he is a 42 year old burly batman fan, he has a bald head and pale skin. Bill and I 

are really nice to each other. We both love the ocean as much as we love living. 

One day while we were working, our boss came to us and asked us to go to an 

underwater waterfall in the Pacific Ocean and look for new fish. We agreed and got 

on our boat, the S.S. Fun. While we were getting on the boat and setting a GPS for 

the spot our boss told us to go to, Bill asked me where the Pacific Ocean was on 

the map because he had forgotten. I knew that there are five main oceans, the 

Pacific, the Atlantic, the Indian, the Arctic and the Southern oceans. I told him 

where it was and we were off. However since I was going for the dive, I didn't 

know that I was in for a big surprise…

It was a nice day when we went out on the boat. Bill and I were 

about to get to the place we needed to be. I was putting on my 

wet suit at the back of the ship when it started getting bumpy 

from the waves I started walking toward the inside of the boat 

when a big wave hit the boat from the side. It knocked me over 

the side of the ship. Because I was still putting on my suit, I didn't 

have my mask on but I did see when it fell out. I went to get it and 

put it on. I started yelling to get Bill’s attention but he couldn't’t here 

me over the roar of the engine. I tried swimming to him but the 

current was too strong. I felt myself start to sink when I realized that I 

was in a whirlpool! I was completely underwater and I felt as if I was 

falling when I remembered that I was at an underwater waterfall. While I 

was falling I felt a sharp pain and then all I saw was black.

I imagined that I was still on the boat with Bill and we had gotten to our 

destination and I was about to dive in. When I jumped in Bill started to 

drive away and I was stuck in the tides.   I saw myself start to lose my 

mask and I started to drown. Right before it looked like I was going to 

drown, I woke up. I looked around but all I could see was darkness. I 

realized that I was in the aphotic zone of the ocean because I knew that 

there wasn’t any sunlight there. I turned on my waterproof light to see and 

what I saw was a bunch of coral. Then I saw something moving. When I 

got a better look at it, I knew that it was a school of fish. The fish started to 

swarm me. When they clumped around near my legs, it felt like a million 

pounds of force was being pushed onto my leg. I just thought of when Bill 

told me to break a leg, I guess I took his advice a bit too seriously. I push a 

button on my light, which made it shock all of the fish. I started to 

swimming and luckily my leg didn’t hurt. While swimming, I found a cave 

and decided to go in. when I was swimming in there I heard a cracking 

noise and then the ground just broke and I was sent down into a trench. 

While falling my light broke and I was in complete darkness.
