Chapter 1

                                    Who is Ja Morant ?

Ja Morant is an American basketball player, who has played in the National basketball Association (NBA) since he was twenty years old! He was born on August 10, 1999 in South Carolina, USA. He is six foot two, weighs 190 pounds and has a wingspan of two meters. His father helped him achieve his dream of becoming an NBA player. Ja Morant’s dad would train him in their backyard every single day. Ja Morants  dream would soon come true after lot’s of practice. On the NBA draft night in 2019, the Memphis Grizzlies selected Ja Morant to be their point guard. He was drafted second overall in the NBA which means he got picked second in the entire draft! 

The first pick in the 2019 draft was a player named Zion Williamson, Zion and Ja Morant played together on the same Amateur Athletic Union team (AAU). The team was named “The South Carolina Hornets”. Ja Morant played for a couple of years with his AAU team. In Ja Morants first year of college he averaged 12 points per game. In his second year he made a big improvement because he started averaging over 24 points, and 10 assists per game. In the NBA 2023-24 season Ja Morant was averaging over 25 points, 8.1 assists, and 1 block .

                                How did he get drafted?

        It all started when Ja Morant was at a basketball camp. He was one of the last ones to arrive so his coach didn’t really see him play. His coach said that if your name isn’t called, go to the other gym. Ja Morant’s name was not called. Obviously he was disappointed that his name wasn’t called. He went to the other gym and started practicing alone. Later in the day, James Kane, a scout from Murray state, was directed through the hall to the gym that Ja Morant was practicing in . He saw Ja playing in the gym and he was amazed. James Kane decided to call his boss and tell him about Ja. James Kane and his boss knew that there was something special about him. Murray State decided to give Ja Morant a scholarship because of his incredible athletic ability.
