Chapter 1
My Craving Of Cookies
I trudged wearily down the familiar path that led to my house. The school day had been long, filled with parties that seemed never-ending. Luckily it was the last day. With a sigh of relief, I finally reached my house and summoned all the energy I had left to knock on the door three times.
To my surprise, there was no response. I knocked three more times, hoping that someone would answer. Just as I was about to give up and accept defeat, my exasperated sister Amira appeared by my side. Rolling her eyes, she retrieved the ring of keys from her backpack and deftly unlocked the door.
I stepped into my house. The scent of freshly baked cookies wafted through the air.
I entered the kitchen to find my mom taking
a tray of golden brown cookies out
of the oven. Assalamualaikum Mom."
She glanced up from her task,
returning the greeting with a
warm "Walaikum-assalam, Aminah."
My mom's smile grew wider as she
turned her attention back to the
cookies. "Can you be my taste tester?"
she inquired, extending a cookie
towards me.
Eagerly, I took a bite.

The cookie crumbled in my mouth. Before I could savor the moment fully, Amira suddenly reappeared in the kitchen.
"Mom, did you see the new neighbors?" Amira questioned. "I did, Amira."
Unable to contain her excitement, Amira snatched a
cookie from the tray.
"Can we take some cookies to them?" she asked, a hopeful glimmer in her eyes.
My mom chuckled, clearly amused by Amira's enthusiasm. "Of course, sweetheart. It's always a good gesture to welcome new neighbors with some homemade treats."
With that, Amira and I carefully selected a few of the best-looking cookies from the tray and placed them in a box.
When we reached the front door, Amira eagerly rang the doorbell. We heard a muffled conversation inside, and moments later, the door swung open, revealing two girls. They both wore wide smiles.
"Hi! We're Ayah and Safiyah, your new neighbors!" one of the girls exclaimed, extending her hand towards us.
"I'm Amira, and this is my sister, Aminah," Amira replied, shaking their hands.
"Nice to meet you!" I chimed in shyly. "We brought some cookies to welcome you."
Their eyes lit up with gratitude as they eagerly accepted the box. "Thank you so much. That's so kind of you!"
Ayah exclaimed.
"You're welcome! Our mom baked them," Amira proudly announced.
As we stood there, talking and getting to know each other, their parents appeared behind the girls. They introduced themselves as Mr. and Mrs. Rahman, both of them wearing warm smiles.
"We're so grateful for the warm welcome," Mrs. Rahman said appreciatively. "Moving to a new place can be quite intimidating, but you've made us feel right at home."
"Why don't you take Ayah and Safiyah to see the neighborhood?" Mr. Rahman said.
My mom smiled and nodded.
"Of course, go ahead. Just make sure to stay together and be back before it gets too dark."

Hi!
Chapter 2
Friends For Life
As we walked, Ayah and Safiyah told us about their previous home and the friends they left behind. They talked about their old school and the activities they used to enjoy. Listening to their stories, I couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. Moving to a new place could be tough, leaving behind familiar faces and routines.
But as we continued our walk, I noticed how Ayah and Safiyah's faces lit up when they spoke about their new home and the possibilities it held. They pointed out the beautiful park down the street, the local library where they hoped to spend many afternoons, and even a nearby animal shelter called Friends For Life.
Amira asked if we could visit the animal shelter, and Ayah and Safiyah eagerly agreed. "Miss Abre owns the shelter, and she's really kind," Amira said. "She takes care of all the animals who don't have homes."
