Zoo Animals
By: Oz Amaloo

There are many different animals at the zoo. There are
Tigers, Bears, Lions, Monkeys and many more. This book will talk
about Lions, Chimpanzees, and Red River Hogs. All of these animals
have different roles in their spaces and they all do different
things, but they are all similar in some ways. Of course they have
their differences. They are all different species but they all live on
the same continent. These animals are all great animals and they
all have their purposes so that their ecosystems* survive. Lions,
Chimpanzees, and Red River Hogs should all be respected so that
their species can survive.
*An ecosystem is where many living things and non-living things interact and survive.

Chimpanzees are found in certain parts of Africa. They eat
insects, nuts, leaves, and other monkeys.they have learned to
use many tools such as sharpened sticks and rocks to get inside
the nut shells and to kill the Red Colobus Monkeys that they
eat.Chimpanzees are closely related to us. They share ninety-
eight percent of our DNA.They are so similar that Humans and
Chimpanzees probably had a common ancestor four to eight
million years ago. Their life span is forty-five years. They can learn
to use leaves as sponges to wash themselves with. Some Chimps in
captivity have even been taught basic Human sign language.

The Red River Hog, otherwise known as the African Bush Pig,
lives in Western and Central Africa. They live in nests that the
females build. The nests are normally ten feet long and three feet
high. the Hogs are the largest animals to live in nests in their area.
They are great swimmers and wallow in mud so that they don't
get sun burned. They eat many types of berries and nuts. Unlike
most species, the male takes care of the child except for nursing.
The Mother of the Red River Hog does that.

Lions are well known to many people. They live in groups
called prides which consist of several families that have three
males, a dozen females and their young. All of the females in a
pride are related. A single pride's territory can be one-hundred
square miles. The manes that go around the male lion's neck are
there to represtnt and protect the pride's territory. All of the
females in the pride hunt to get antelopes, zebras, and
wildebeests to eat. they will also hunt alone or steal kills from
other animals but that is less common. Even though the females
are the ones that hunt and kill the prey the males get to eat first.
Then the females and lastly the cubs.

As you can see, all of these animals are alike in some ways.
Like how Lions, Chimpanzees, and Red River Hogs all live in
Africa and how they all live in sizable groups of animals. The
three species are also different in many ways. They share
different resemblance to humans, with chimps being the closest
to humans. They live in different kinds of shelters. The Red River
Hog lives in a large nest, whereas the chimps just live in the trees.
But even through all of these differences they still live in the same
relative area. They don’t interfere with the other animals’ lives and
they are all dependent on each other.
