Merena One: High school.
I didn't need the alarm. I was already awake. Oceana, one of my two older sisters, had early college registration. Ariana, my oldest sister, had turned eighteen in May. She was going to an Ivy League college today, so I was awake as soon as she opened her closet door. I wiggled out of my knot of blankets and sheets. I tried on my new uniform. It fit perfectly, so I pulled on my gloves, contacts, and shoes.
Blake One: Her.
I was at school early, as always. I didn't know why, but I felt like something wasn't right. Or was right, where it wasn't before. I couldn't figure out what was different, until I saw her. She had black hair, that shined blue or purple when the light hit it. She looked like she was a freshmen, and there was something strange about her, almost like her eyes didn't match her.
She seemed like a legacy, since there was another girl in the uniform, and two women with her. I recognized two of the girls. Ariana and Oceana. Ariana was a grade ahead of me, and like most people, I hated Oceana. She was the stereotypical queen bee, but I overheard her talking about her little sister a lot. She sounded like she hated people, but was strong, skilled, and proud.
Merena: Class
I knew someone was watching me. A lot of people were, but... This was different. They seemed to be analyzing me... I turned in the direction the gaze was coming from, but I didn't see anything. "Merena? Oh, I see. Yeah, the golden blonde one is Blake Anderson... I'd stay away from him." Oceana murmured. "Why? Is he yours?" "It's not from lack of trying, but no. He's just a jerk that gets into fights everyday."
I scoffed. "I don't think we'll have a problem." Ariana whispered in my ear that she knew his brother and sister, so she went to talk to him. Mama noticed and started over-reacting. "Is that one of my daughters going to talk to a boy?!" "Mama, there's no harm. Don't forget, L.G.B.T.Q." My mom cooled down when she remembered that Ariana was lesbian. "Right. Right.
Blake: Annoyances.
The girl turned, as though she sensed my gaze. Oceana started talking to her, and the oldest, Ariana, started to walk towards me. "Hey, Anderson!" I grumbled, but turned to see Ariana was taller than I thought, at almost six feet. I was around six foot five, so it's easy to tell when people are tall. "What?" I huffed. I didn't want to talk to anybody. "Just a warning. Stay. Away. From. My. Sister." "Her name?" "She will squash you like a bug." "Her name?"
"Fine. Merena Ortega, youngest of us, and the strongest." She walked away. The Ortega's are known for their outstanding strength. If she's stronger than Ariana, what kind of abomination is she? Suddenly, the overwhelming scent of lavender and pure, running water filled my nose. I had been standing by the door, so when the Ortega's walked towards it, I noticed that Merena's scent was nothing like her family's.
Merena:
Ariana walked up and rolled her eyes at Oceana, who was flirting vigorously. "What was that about?" I asked. "Just a warning. I sort-of reanimated a P-J scene?" "Which one?" I knew I had the nerdom glint in my eye. "'Her name?' 'She will squash you like a bug.' 'Her name.'" "Ooh, nicely done." "Mama, we're gonna be late!"
Oceana whined to our mother, making her sigh. "I suppose so. Well, come on." As we got closer to the door, I saw Blake standing there, and was overwhelmed by the scent of new oak leaves and charcoal. I walk straight past not sparing him a glance. Until proven otherwise, he was just another person to ignore, the annoying pests.
Blake: Apparently Oceana wasn't lying, for the most part, about her sister. She was cold to the world, though she had a soft spot for the 'pups' as her family, other than Oceana, called Rachel, Mike, and Kiki. She kept them close for the most part, and took care of the 'pups' bullies. She was spiteful and sassy though, as an incident during the third week of school showed. Javelin, the quarterback, was teasing Merena and some of her friends for coming to the gym.
Merena and her group had uniform passes, so Merena just laughed when he slyly remarked that girls couldn't have abs, and just went into the locker room. They all came out in sports bras and shorts, showing their abs. Javelin's jaw dropped, seeing that Merena's body was even more sculpted than his. She grinned, and one of her two blue haired friends said, "Walk." No one moved. Merena jumped in, "No, no, no, see, you gotta go like this." She blew her whistle. "WALK!" The boys ran. I stayed. "Your fine. just don't get any ideas."
I went back to running laps and doing push ups. "Secom esat?" The girls began to speak in a language I didn't recognize. I left and came back hours later to see they were still there just watching Merena. "Do a flip!" Merena was hanging from the rafters and at hearing those words, let go and flipped to land on her feet. Ariana and Oceana walked in.
Merena: That was fun. Not the thrill I was looking for. Ariana and Oceana walked in and Oceana, being the snotty person she is, said "No shoes? How gross can you be?" "Shut it. She can go barefoot if she wants." I mouthed thanks to my oldest sister. "Why is he here?" Oceana turned towards the jerk named Blake. "I dunno. He threw the former alpha male out of a window, so he has to work for it somewhere, I guess." "Eh. Doesn't matter. Has he been watching you?"
Ariana, being the protective big sister, sharply asked. "I just got here. I left a few hours ago." I hated the guy, he made hall monitoring duty very, very, hard. "He doesn't care." Pola, my blue haired, tiger-shifter friend spoke. Her human, also blue haired, half sister Katelyn glared at him. "If he was, he wouldn't make it past the door."
Blake:
I swallowed. These were some of the strongest people in the school. Merena, who was strangely detached from the group, slightly smiled. "Hey, I heard that MV is going to visit the school." One of the blue haired girls called, catching Merena's attention. "About time. They're long overdo for a beating." "MV?" "Oh. I forgot the douchebag was here. MV is Midnight Vouage, an elite military group, and apart of every corp in the military. " The blonde and pink haired girl said. "Mia, don't say another word.
You know that's classified." The brown haired one spoke up. "You're all being dumb. So what if we're SOPs?" The black and gold haired girl yelled. Merena's eye twitched. "Hey! Munchies is gonna hea-" "SHUT IT!" Merena ordered. "Gods! Why are you so loud! You're going to get us ALL BOOTED! Gods, you're idiots... My head..." "When was the last time you ate?" Ariana was hovering. "I dunno... Last Tuesday, I think?"
"I know you're work's important, but so are you."
Blake: She's gonna die. Ariana's girlfriend just slapped her calling her a copycat, where Merena could see it. "Why did you slap her Soraci!" "She's a copycat, Mer." Merena inhaled as her gase darkened. Poor girl. "I know my sister like I know my own mind, you will never find anyone as trusting or as kind!" If this was a gacha tictok it would be flashing and the font would be the dripping red one.
"So now your crying. Ariana, you need to focus on college and work. I'll take care of this." Ariana left. "You. Will you do me the honor, of leaving my family's, especially my sister's, lives? The only answer available to you is yes." Merena blinked, and something fell out of her left eye. Her left eye wasn't brown. It was glowing gold, like a yellow molten gold. "Leave." The girl scrambled to run. I whistled. "Wow. The fish bone has some guts attached." That's when I learned what an Ortega punch feels like.
Merena: That jerk. This world... deserves to burn, doesn't it? "Not now. I'm busy." "Mer? Who you talking to?" Ariana called. "I need more CBD." "The voices again?" "Too loud. But yeah. And sleep alludes me again." "You know, sleep drugs won't work forever. The more you use them, the more your body builds up resistance to it." "Yeah, but they just love to chat me up." "How many are actually in your head full time?" "Three." "Jeez." "All female. I think one is a fury."
"When was the last time you slept?" "Ummm..." "Go. Now. I'll get the CBD."
Blake: "Wait what?" "Oh hell no." Merena and I said at the same time. "Hell to the no. Not happening." Merena was shaking her head. "I can do it by myself." "I'm sorry Merena, but you can't." The teacher spoke softly. Merena shifted her stance, and the teacher ran. "Merena, what did you do this time?" "Katelyn, I got paired with an EMO GIRAFFE THAT'S WHAT!" "Okay." Katelyn ran away. "The hell?" The blonde and pink haired girl looked in, and shreaked. "I'M SORRY ALPHA!" "I'm so confused." "Stay that way."
Merena, who I called fish bone, because of how small she is, confused me. I hated her, but I liked her at the same time, and every time I thought I had her figured out, something would happen, and I would just be confused again. She was like a brain teaser. But at least I had my online friend, Luny Moona.
Merena: "No!" The girls yelled at me. "We will not leave you alone!" "Just leave. I can't deal with this right now!" "No, we swore-" "I SAID LEAVE!" Everyone started at me in shock. "Go. Go home. I'm going to arrange to go back to Japan. Back to the Midoriya's." "But?" "No. Go home. The tension is clear to me. Go. That's an order!" I snapped when no one moved. "If not as a former friend, or alpha, then as general."
Blake: Something changed. Merena was more quiet, and more alone than before. She seemed, tired, almost. Moona didn't seem as lively while playing our game either, and that bothered me. Rumors were going around that Merena had cut herself off, and that she was moving soon, but people often said again when they spoke of it. "Mia, the one with the blonde and pink hair, she says that this has happened before, and that they can't get close to her anymore."
"I heard that Merena literally ordered them to leave. I mean, what alpha orders their pack to like, leave the pack?" "An broken one." "Shoot, alpha male!" "Come on!"
Merena: I didn't care. I just wanted to get back to Japan, and get into UA. Maybe I could find some old friends. The rumors were annoying, because I could hear people muttering. I could feel them watching me. I didn't want this. I just wanted to go back to the days when I was a little child. The days I used to spend playing tag with Touya and Shoto in the Todoroki yard. I mindlessly sat in front of a door in the music room. "Are you crying?" A voice came from behind the door. "Maybe. I don't want to be."
"Okay then. Talk to me." I looked at the door, and smiled.
