Dedicated to my mom

Missy the Cat is a baker who enjoys baking. She has been baking all her life, ever since she was a small kitten. She started from baking small sweet treats such as cookies and pudding which eventually became giant chocolate fudge 5 tiered cakes and many flavors of ooey-gooey, fruity pies. It's her most fun thing to do. It is Missy's favorite! She now bakes and bakes all day in her sweet little bakeshop called Kitty’s Confection, where all the kitties and cats line up to munch on any delicious treat they can think of. It is the best bakeshop in town. Warm and gooey or chilly and soft, Missy bakes it all!

After much measuring and stirring, the brownies are finished! Missy opens the oven and the sweet, fudgey smell fills her shop. They came out perfect! Missy cannot wait to bring them to Mayor Cat’s birthday party. She sets them on the table to cool. Just then, an unexpected visitor comes through the door. It’s Kissy the Cat, Missy the Cat’s clumsy sister. Uh oh! Missy gets nervous. She just finished baking Mayor Cat’s brownies, they cannot get ruined! Missy must stop Kissy from getting close to the brownies. Missy gets so nervous that she has to use the litter box to let out her jitters. Missy makes Kissy stand in the far, far corner away from the brownies. She orders her to stay there until Missy comes back. Then, out of nowhere, Kissy sees a mouse.

Kissy is afraid of mice! Scared, Kissy grabs a book and starts to chase the mouse. Squealing and smacking, squealing and smacking, Kissy tries to chase the mouse away. She misses the mouse every time she whacks with her book. Instead, she accidentally whacks all the fresh pies off the tables, the frosty ice creams out of the freezer, and finally Mayor Cat’s brownies! The brownies are smashed and ruined. It looks like one big, gross glob of chocolate. Missy the Cat comes out of the litter box and sees the ruckus Kissy has made. She is mad. Kissy tries to say sorry, but Missy does not accept it. She orders poor Kissy to leave. Kissy hands Missy the book back and sadly leaves her bake shop.

Oh the mess Kissy has made. Missy’s important brownies for Mayor Cat’s birthday are no more and there is not enough time for Missy to make them again on her own! Sad, Missy sits down and sighs. She looks at the book Kissy gave her. She sees it’s a religion book. Missy did not know she had this, let alone in her bake shop! Curious, Missy starts to read. There she learns about three religions. She learns about one of the four Sublime States in a religion called Buddhism, a belief on forgiveness from a religion called Christianity, and a way of thinking from a religion called Taoism.

Compassion:
In the Buddhism religion, Missy the Cat learns about a feeling called compassion. Compassion is when you are worried for a friend and want to help them (Karuna). It is also called Karuna. This is a very important feeling. It is a part of four other feelings that are just as powerful in Buddhism. Together, all these feelings are called the Four Sublime States. They help you become a good person just like how the maker, Buddha, wants us to be. We look up to Buddha and other Gods because they are so great and our goal is to be just like them so we can reach the best feeling called nirvana. Nirvana is when all your bad feelings go away and you become happy.

Forgiving Others

In the Christianity religion, Missy learns about forgiving others. Forgiving others is a very important but, easy thing to do. If someone does something bad, it is called a sin. No one wants to sin. Even though the person did something wrong, you should still forgive them because it makes peace in the world. It is like giving the person a second chance. Long ago, it is what a very good man called Jesus did too. Everyone loved Jesus and Jesus loved everyone. He gave second chances to all which made a super powerful creator called God happy. So if you forgive too then God will keep on helping you (“Los Angeles Christian”).

Wu Wei
In the Taoism religion, Missy’s last thing she learns is how to stay calm even when you are doing the most crazy things. Doing this is called Wu Wei. Even if you are having a race with your friends or your mom makes you clean your room, you will do it in a calm and super fast way. This does not mean that you stop trying but, you start to let things happen (Joppich). No one wants to clean their room but we all know our moms will get mad at us if we do not. Our mommies are scary when they are mad! Luckily, Wu Wei helps us with that. It also brings us closer with other people and even animals. We are all joined in the Taoism religion because we all have energy called Ch’i in us (“Wu Wei”). Wu Wei helps us do that and makes a happy life.
