My name is Barry and I'm a common bacteria. Much like you I'm a living creature, just much smaller and I function differently. There are many different types of bacteria out there, some good and some bad.

Scientists use a variety of tools and techniques to study living things like me to keep you safe and healthy. 

It's during one such procedure where I get brought into things. A scientist was using a tool called a micropipette, similar to a syringe but much more expensive and accurate, to draw up a water to create agar, a jelly like substance used to grow bacteria.

The tip is a plastic cone that goes on the end of the pipette which ensures substances and contaminants like me don't go where they aren't meant. Scientists view the display window which shows a range of numbers.

These numbers tell the scientists how much liquid is going to be drawn up into the micropipette so they can be super accurate in their lab work.

When done with measuring of the water, a liquid agar is created. This agar is what feeds bacteria like me in a controlled environment to be studied.

Next this Agar gets put into an autoclave. While no fire is exposed to it it gets incredibly hot like a fire and heats up the mixture to turn it into one mixture like stirring sugar into a cup of tea. What this also does is ensure there is no bacteria present in the liquid that could contaminate it, you don't want a fly getting in your juice now do you?

Inside the autoclave once the door is shut and sealed you use the different dials on the side to change specific details like the temp and time you want the "oven" to run like when baking a cookie.

The autoclave functions much like the oven in your own very home. It has a sealed door to keep the heat inside and protect you from it while the inside gets warm.

Once heated properly the newly cleansed liquid is ready and poured into clear sealable dishes used to grow bacteria and fungi in a seeable space.
