One week in 2019 my whole family and I went on a trip to North Carolina in the mountains. We stayed in a really big and nice house. It was surrounded by mountains and had a lake that we would always swim in. There was a big fire pit right by the dock that we had campfires at.

One of the days we were there, we went white water rafting in a river. It was so fun, I remember sitting in the tube with my cousin and always screaming every time we went over a rock. After it was over we got to see all of the pictures that were taken during it.

When we got back to our house everyone was helping to make dinner. We had a big pasta dinner with salads. We all spread out all over the first floor to eat our dinner. I loved being around everyone and just being together.

 After dinner was done all of us kids went down into the really big basement and played pool. After we got bored of that we started playing cards. We all got in a circle and started playing multiple games. It started getting dark outside and there was a big glass sliding door. It was scary looking out the door and seeing nothing but darkness.

We all would try and scare each other and say “What was that” We would all get so scared. Until a little bit later we started hearing tapping on the door. Nobody really freaked out yet cause it only happened once. When it happened again that's when we all freaked out and ran upstairs. We told all of our parents how we heard that. They knew we weren’t lying so our dads went outside to look.

Then we realized we had left our little cousin downstairs and started freaking out. Luckily the door had been locked. After all of our dads came inside they had said how they heard running in the woods but didn’t see anyone. So we went into the basement to get my cousin. The mystery is still unsolved as to who was knocking at our basement door.

    The lesson of this memory would be to make sure you don't leave anyone behind.
