every family is special.

Once upon a time, there was a boy named Alex. He had just moved to a new town. Everything about this place seemed different—the school, the kids, and even the way people talked. But what worried Alex the most was whether the kids would accept his family: he had two moms.

Love you mom and momma! I am going to try to have a good first day!

On the first day of school, Alex noticed how everyone sat together during lunch, laughing and talking like old friends. Alex sat by himself, feeling out of place. He wondered if anyone else had a family like his.
Ha ha! I love eating lunch with you all!

At recess, some kids were talking about their families. ‘My mom says families should be like ours,’ said one girl. Alex felt his stomach tighten. ‘My family is different,’ he said quietly, but no one seemed to hear him.”

Alex wished he could share more about his family, but he didn’t know how. What if the other kids didn’t like him because his family was different? He spent the rest of the day feeling like he didn’t belong.

That night, Alex told his moms about the day. ‘Do you think the kids will understand?’ he asked. His moms smiled and hugged him.

Being different is special, It might take time, but the right friends will accept you for who you are.

The next day, Alex met Maria, a new student. Maria was from another country and didn’t know anyone either. ‘It’s hard being new,’ Maria said. ‘I know what it feels like to not fit in.’ Alex felt a bit better knowing someone else understood.

In class, they were assigned a project about family. Maria had an idea. ‘Why don’t we do our project about different kinds of families?’ she suggested. ‘That way, we can show everyone that no two families are the same.’ Alex loved that idea.
I love that idea Maria!

Alex and Maria worked hard. They collected pictures of different types of families—families with two moms, two dads, single parents, and grandparents raising kids. They wanted to show everyone how unique every family could be.

Every family is special

On the day of the presentation, Alex felt nervous. But as he and Maria talked about the different kinds of families, he noticed his classmates were listening closely. ‘Families come in all shapes and sizes,’ Alex explained. ‘And every family is special in its own way.
