The American Revolutionary War began in 1775 and ended in 1783. The colonists were fighting Britain for their independence.
During this time, many leaders stepped up to help in the battles. The American Revolutionary War was a long, harsh battle that shaped America today.

is for Bunker Hill


The battle of Bunker Hill was one of the first major battles of the American Revolution. Colonel William Prescott led 1,200 minutemen up Bunker Hill to fire on
British ships docked at the Boston Harbor. The Patriots used the geography to their advantage and when the British attacked they were ready. This battle showed the Patriots determination.
is for Cheorkee


The Cheorkee was a Native American tribe that helped assist the British in the American Revolutionary War.
They not only defended their territory but fought against the Patriots. The lost many people in the battle and had to withdraw from the war

is for Daughters of Liberty

The Daughters of Liberty formed after the Stamp Act. They helped the Sons of Liberty by protesting and giving them ideas.
They are credited for dressing the Sons of Liberty up in Native American attire for the Boston Tea Party. Their houses also serve as a safe house where the Sons of Liberty would meet.

is for Ethan Allen

Ethan Allen was the leader of the Green Mountain Boys. He led them to a victory in capturing Fort Ticonderoga. This was a big victory for the Continental Arm because it helped them get the needed artillery
like guns, cannon power, etc.

is for French aid

In the Revolutionary War the French helped the Continental Army. They provided supplies, artillery, and most importantly troops. They were driven by the
mindset of humiliating the British because of how much land they lost in the French and Indian War.

is for Gage, Thomas

Thomas Gage was a British general that participated in Braddock's Expedition, the Battle of Lexington and Concord, the Battle of Bunker Hill,
and the Siege of Boston. After he then was called back to England and William Howe took his place. In most of these battles he led his team to success.

is for John Adams

John Adams was the second president in the United States. In the Revolutionary War, he attended both Continental Congresses. He also helped organize the Treaty of Paris that led to the peace of French and Indian War.

is for Hays, Mary

Mary Ludwig Hays also known as Molly Pitcher was a helper on the battle field. She would carry water from a near by spring to the
soldiers. However she is best known for when her husband got wounded she stepped in and worked the cannon.
is for Independence


The Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776. It announced that the colonies were officially separated from Britain. Thomas Jefferson was the main writer with John Handcock signing his name first. It is a symbol of freedom and independence for America.

is for King George

King George III is the king of England. He didn't fight in the war and contributed little to the war efforts. King George did, however, hire Hessian troops to fight in the war. The war took eight years mostly
because he didn't want to surrender to the colonists.

is for Long Island

The Battle of Long Island was said to be George Washington's biggest loss. The British cornered the Patriots forcing them to
retreat. George Washington retreated to Pennsylvania which caused the Continental Congress to live another day.


is for Minute men
The minute men were a part of the New England militia. They got their name because they were ready at a minutes notice. Lead by John Parker this group of men
helped fight and capture the opposing side. The minute men participated in the Boston Massacre where eight of them died.

is for Navy
The Patriots didn't have a navy but an army called the Continental Army, didn't have a lot of experience or weapons. The Patriots did have a strong leader and

determination. The British army on the other hand was one of the strongest armies with trained soldiers. However, they were far away from their home making it hard to get the supplies they needed in time.

is for the Olive Branch Petition
The Olive Branch Petition was a request from the colonists during the Intolerable Acts. Their goal was to avoid war with the British. In the petition they declared their loyalty to the king. However, instead of helping the petition made the king angry making him send more soldiers to the colonies.


is for Paris
The Treaty of Paris 1783 ended the Revolutionary war. Both the British and Patriots signed. After this treaty, the British lost control of the thirteen colonies making America a free country. Thanks to this we live in freedom and peace.
