Bir gün Nasreddin Hoca eşeğini alıp alışveriş yapmak için kasabaya gitmiş. Aldıklarını kocaman bir çuvalın içine yerleştirmiş. Çuvalı da sırtına alıp eşeğine binerek tekrar köyünün yolunu tutmuş.

Yolda giderken Hocayı gören köylülerden biri sormuş :

─ Hocam, çuvalı neden eşeğin heybesine koymadın da kendi sırtına aldın ?

Nasreddin Hoca cevap vermiş :

─ Ne yapayım ?

─ Zavallı eşek zaten beni sırtında taşıyor.

─ Kendi bindiğim yetmiyormuş gibi çuvalı da ona taşıtmaya gönlüm razı olmadı.

One day Nasreddin Hodja took his donkey and went to town to shop. He placed what he bought in a huge sack. He took the sack on his back and rode his donkey back to his village.

One of the villagers who saw Hodja on the way asked him:

─ Hodja, why didn't you put the sack in the donkey's saddlebag but took it on your own back?

Nasreddin Hodja replied:

─ What can I do?

─ The poor donkey is already carrying me on its back.

─ I didn't want to make him carry the sack as if it was not enough for me to ride on my own back.

One day, Hodja fell from the roof. Everyone gathered around him and asked what to do. Hodja spoke in a difficult way and said:

 -Don't bring me a doctor, bring someone who fell from the roof! He will understand my pain the best!
