The Fronde was a series of revolts led by angry nobles that opposed the increasing royal power. The Fronde happened during Louis XIV's childhood and can be seen as leading young Louis XIV to his constant oppression of the nobility.

The Glorious Revolution was the replacement of James II as king to put William of Orange and his wife Mary on the throne.

The House of Orange was the Dutch family that normally held the office of stadtholder and even the English throne.

Louis XIV was the absolutist king of France from 1643-1715 and also known as the sun king. Louis XIV was a very powerful ruler of France and posed a great threat to Europe and the balance of power.

Mazarin was king Louis XIV's chief minister of France for a short period of Louis XIV's life. He sought to continue the work of Cardinal Richelieu.

The Netherlands was a region in Europe that was ruled by many different powers throughout Europe. It's often associated with Spain and the Dutch.

The Ottoman Empire was an extremely powerful Islamic country that is often associated with their hunger for power throughout the ages.

Prussia was a part of Poland in Europe that later turned into Germany after overpowering Austria.
