The genre of this book is non-fiction. In this story, Gabby starts kindergarten and meets a friend that really likes to play with the stuffed dinosaur her mother sent to school with her so she wouldn't be afraid. Gabby doesn't want her to play with it, but says "Yes" out of fear of saying "No".After speaking to her mother, Gabby understands that she is allowed to say no to her friends. Children knowing that they are allowed to say no in small situations, gives them the courage to speak up for themselves during bigger, or more dangerous situations. The genre of non-fiction is conveyed in this story because being able to set boundaries is a tool needed in real life situations and relationships. It is important for children to learn to share, but they also deserve time to themselves where they don't have to cater to the needs of others. This will help children avoid becoming people pleasers into adulthood. I used realistic, yet cartoon-like imagery to keep the realistic feel of the story while ,keeping the children drawn in I also made the main characters in the story stand out from the others, along with distinguishing adults from children by size and placement.

It was Gabby's first day of Kindergarten and she was so excited to meet new friends!

Gabby's Mother gave her one of her stuffed dinosaurs in case she would be nervous

School was going great for Gabby until free time, when a child in her class asked if she could play with Gabby's dinosaur

Gabby really didn't want to, but she remembered what she was taught about sharing and said yes anyways. Gabby didn''t receive her dinosaur back until the end of the school day

Gabby cried the entire bus ride home and didn't want to talk to anyone

"How was your first day?!" Gabby's Mother exclaimed as she entered the door.

Gabby stood there with a sad look on her face, and her mother became worried. "What happened baby?" her mother asked.

"Today at school one of my frends asked to play with my dino and I didn't want to give it to her" Whined Gabby. "Did she take it from you" Her mother asked

Gabby explained to her mother that she told the girl she could play with it because she didn't think she could say no because she was taught to share

"Oh baby, you can always say No even to a friend, it is important to share but you don't have to all of the time"

"What if they don't want to be my friend anymore?" Gabby asked. "Then you can find another friend that understands they can be told no and still be your friend" Answered her Mother.

The next day at school Gabby was a little nervous to talk to her friend if she asked for her toy again, but she remembered what her mother said and tried to think happy thoughts
