This was what one of our pyramids looked like before we were attacked by the Spanish.

We mostly survived off of our advanced agriculture system.

Our agriculture system was very advanced. This was because of our innovative techniques like chinampas, which were floating gardens.

This is what our pyramids looked like while the Spanish attacked us and the fall of Tenochtitlan commenced.
Some things that helped the Spanish win the invasion against the Aztecs was that they had better weapons, they made alliances with Native groups which did not like the Aztecs, and European diseases killed tons of Aztec people. The Spanish conquistador was named Hernan Cortes. Hernans group was made up of about 600 men, 16 horses, and some cannons. People who helped him were his allies. One of his most important allies was the city states of Tlaxcala. Another one of his most important allies was a woman named Dona Marina, also known as La Malinche. The reason why she was so important was because she could speak Nahuatl, which was the Aztec language. She was Hernans translator and advisor.

On November 8, 1519, Hernan and his men entered Tenochtitlan. At first the emperor, Moctezuma welcomed them, but then the Spanish took a prisoner and on June 30, 1520, the Spanish had to flee Tenochtitlan. That escape was called “La Noche Triste” because many Spanish soldiers passed away. Hernan and some of his men survived, so they attacked again in the fall of 1520. This was because a smallpox epidemic killed many Aztecs including their new emperor. This gave the Spanish an advantage, and Tenochtitlan fell on August 13,1521, and the last Aztec emperor, Cuauhtemoc, was captured.

Here's an image of what New Spain looked like.
Eventually after being conquered by the Spanish in 1521, the Aztec Empire fell apart, with their capital Tenochtitlan destroyed and their population gone and destroyed by disease and violence, ultimately leading to the establishment of New Spain.
