The Alamo was an old stone Spanish Mission located in what is now San Antonio Texas, but it wasn’t just any church it was a strong fort! People lived, worked and defended it. It would become enshrined into the history and culture of Texas.
What was the Alamo?

In 1836 Texas declared independence from Mexico, starting a war. This lead to a large army of Mexican soldiers lead be General Santa Anna to march towards the Alamo mission fort.
Key Defenders of the Alamo
On the Texas side there were a few famous leaders to help lead the defense of the Alamo, earning their place in Texas history. These included Jim Bowie, William Travis, and most famously Davy Crockett, who was a well known frontier man. These men were the leaders for the Texas army that defended the Alamo.

The soldiers inside the Alamo, though greatly outnumbered, began to prepare for battle. They worked together, sharpening swords, cleaning guns, and getting ready to defend the fort at all cost. The heroes were ready to fight for Texas' freedom.

With a large Mexican army approaching the people inside the Alamo had to make a decision. Should they stay and fight, or should they leave and save themselves? The leaders under the brave Davy Crockett decided to stay and fight. They knew that standing up for what was right.

The next morning, the Mexican army arrived. There were cannons, soldiers, and horses. But the heroes of the Alamo didn’t run. They fought with everything they had, protecting their home, their families, and their land.
The battle continued on for days, but the Texans didn’t give up. Every time the enemy tried to break through, the defenders of the Alamo pushed back. They fought for freedom, for their land, and a new republic.

Call for Aid
The Texans bravely held on, but greatly outnumbered they sent out a call for aid. However that call was too late and no one could come to help. Left with little options they chose to fight till the last man.
