Farrah was to start her first day of Third Grade at a new school in one day. She was nervous because she didn’t know any of the other students.

Farrah’s mom told her “make friends”, but that concept was easier said than done. Farrah didn’t even know where to start.

That very afternoon, Farrah went to the library and found the perfect book. “5 Ways to Make Friends.” PERFECT! If she tried these five ways she was bound to make friends.

That following day, on her first day of school, she began to put her plan into play. Number one FIND SHARED INTERESTS. That day at lunch Farrah sat at a table with a group of students from her class. A girl was sitting next to her with the same Lunchables as her.

“This is my favorite one”, Farrah said. “Mine too!” said the girl. They talked the rest of lunch and later the girl asked Farrah to swing at recess. Finding shared interest was a good way to find a friend.

Later that same day during math, the teacher was calling students up to the board to solve problems. The little boy who sits next to Farrah was called up to answer question ten.

He worked and worked and finally came up with the correct answer and returned to his seat. “Good Job!” Farrah whispered his way. “Thank you, I was nervous,” the boy whispered back. Way number two played in her head BE SUPPORTIVE.

Once the bell rang the boy caught up with Farrah in the hall and said, “I’ll see you tomorrow.” Was this another friend?

Two friends on the first day was an amazing start, but Farrah was still curious about the other three ways from her book.

She set out the next day at school to put them to the test and see if they worked too.
That next day as Farrah was standing in line to use the water fountain before art class started, a familiar face from her class walked by towards the bathroom.
