HAIKU

When the sun came up 

I was sitting on the porch

Sun went down, I left

Haikus are easy

But sometimes they don’t make sense

solid, sturdy

snorting, panting, watching

I need a replacement for my door.

The one that I bought is too tall.

So I hacked it and chopped it

And generally lopped it

And now the darn thing is too small!

Limerick

There once was a man from St. Lou

Who kept all his money in a shoe.

He folded and tucked it

And hoped for good lucked it

And now it smells like a bad stew.

Tanka

Rain fell silently

Tapping every leaf and tree.

Bathing the world: life.

The wonders of the world are

like rushing water and sun.

Raindrop sliding down

Window pane filled with grey skies.

Thunder and lightning 

Shaking porch beneath my feet

Mother Nature endlessly.

Narrative

When I was a little girl, we had a home in the country.

It was near the Black River.  Once when my sister and I were hunting crawdads, we found ourselves in trouble.

Dad was fishing nearby, "Don't swim by the log! It's too deep and too fast."

Then my sister and I decided to sit on the log to catch tadpoles.  Sure enough, I slipped in.

I was tumbling down stream when I felt my dad grab my arm.  I was glad he was there to save me.  

All tadpoles and crawdads were sadly lost. 

A girl picking flowers.

A bee lands on the dahlia.

The girl studies the bee.

"Hello, Mr. Bee," she said.

The bee did not answer.

She saw the bee fly away.

"I will follow him!"

She ran through the meadow.

She climbed up the mountain.

She never caught up with the bee.
