Chapter 1: The legend
One burning day, up in the mountaintop lived the people of mt. Peak . They have always been telling each other legends. But one day someone had told a legend about dragons. As it was being told everyone jumped with freight. “Once upon a time dragons used to live not far from here. They used to kill all humans they see. Luckily never since a millennia have they been seen. When they were spotted, no one ever lived to tell the full story.” said James. Once the story was over, everyone was shivering, thinking what if the dragons return.
After 1 year everyone was thinking and telling each other, “It can’t be true; it must just be a fairy-tale.”
Chapter 2: The Sign
James was playing with his friends Ron and Jack. He was playing hard when suddenly he tripped and found an ancient message. There was weird writing, but it was readable. It said, “ If dragons haven’t come in a millennium, they’ll come in 2 years. James read it and ran back to his parents. Quickly he recited, “Do you know how last year was a millennia on the dot?
“Yes,” his parents replied. Well, when I slipped, I scraped some dirt off the grass and found this.
“It’s a message of the future!” his parents replied. “We’ve got to show this to the chief.” James's mom yelled. They arrived at the chief’s house, but to their surprise, he wasn’t home. James went running away from his parents without them noticing to explore where dragons have once lived.
Chapter 3: The New World
James was adventuring around the area. By nighttime he hadn’t managed to get to the dragon's old home. He luckily found a cave and decided to sleep inside. He woke up at the crack of dawn, fresh and ready for more adventure.
However, the cave didn’t look like it did at night. Now it seems much bigger and longer. He goes farther and farther in until he sees a much brighter place with a bunch of animals and, to his surprise, DRAGONS. He straightaway left the cave. "aaaah!!!" yelled James. He was running away all the way back to the kingdom to tell the chief. Luckily, this time, the chief was actually home. He begged and begged the chief by telling him, "Please move the city to another island. In 1 year we will be under attack by dragons, please!” cried James as tears ran down his face. James went home crying like he was going to die the next day. Told his parents all about it.
They didn’t believe him, but they acted as if they did.
Four years later and the dragons still haven’t attacked. James has now joined the Defenders as a member of the team. Normally attackers have swords and shields, and archers, of course, have bows and arrows. But James had them all. He was very skilled; he could pull out his sword and shield, put them back in, and pull out his bow and shoot 1 of his arrows within a second. A very powerful man he was. While taking the lesson, he would say they would all learn and then duel. Sometimes, people would try to take over the island, but they would never win. James thought back to the times he thought dragons would attack them.
But they never had yet. Would it happen? he thought. Would dragons attack us if they came out of their hiding? Or maybe they want some privacy, who knows. The following day, James headed to the cave. To his surprise, he saw three people. It was not anyone from his town. They look up to see James standing with his bow and arrow within a 25 metre range. Straightaway he asked them, “Are you from this town? If not, leave!” They pulled out this weird thing (a gun) from their belt and told him, “You leave, little boy!” James shot and got shot right in the leg. He tried running but couldn’t. He called for the archers, and luckily they came. “Get them!” shouted James.
Six shots, two on each person. ”Yeah, next time we tell you to leave, you leave!” yelled James.
Chapter 4: The First Breath of Flames
James remained severely injured, lying in a bed in the hospital. He couldn’t do his duty anymore. Now he was stuck in bed, stiff, covered in bandages that were full of blood. After three days of being stuck in the hospital, the first breath of fire took its place. All the soldiers are running from place to place to get their weapons in case anything has started the fire. After a day or so, the fire had gotten a lot bigger.
And James was no longer stiff. His friends Ron and Jack dashed to the hospital and into his room. “Your parents have just been saved; they almost got killed by the flame.” Ron mentioned. “Your cousin Harry just managed to save them without dying. But don’t worry, he’s okay.” Jack commented. James yelled for the doctor to come back. As soon as he came back, James asked if he could now go on duty again. But he wasn’t allowed. At night when the doctor left, he quickly left. No one knew, but if he got caught, he would be in deep trouble. So he knew he shouldn’t have left, but he did. In the morning he quickly rushed back inside without leaving a trace that he had left.
The doctor quickly came back and said, “People have invaded; the army failed to guard. After you, I have to treat all the other army members. You can go now, but don’t die; there’s a whole lot of them.” James sat up as quickly as he could, stayed for a minute, and then rushed to his weapons and out of the door. He knew he couldn’t do anything, but after all, this is for the town, not only himself. They must’ve come from another town because those other people never returned.
But why were those other people coming in the first place? Were they finding another place for some of the other town members to come, or did they already know about this village?
Chapter 5: The Revelation
James rushed out of the door, grabbing his weapons, and within two seconds was gone. He couldn’t let people take over the village that easily. He has to fight; be a man. Be strong and defend. And so he did. He rushed in and saw around twenty people. He pulled out his bow and arrow, hiding behind a big boulder. He put an arrow on the string and pulled, aimed at a man, and released. Silently the arrow sliced through the air towards the leader.
Within a second the arrow had already pierced the leader's head, and he fell down dead
The army retreated, now scared that they were going to die next. Once they had left James had got out of hiding. He had now very much wanted to visit his parents. And also needed to take care of his little sister Emma that was now three months old. He went to the hospital where his parents were being treated. He went to check on them. They told him that his sister is gone to the babysitter, and had also told him to go there and bring her to them so that they can see her and for James to take care of her. So he did. Now his parents should be happy. He really couldn’t wait to see his parents standing unhurt and straight. And also to see the happy face on his baby sister.
So James obeyed straight away and left to get his sister. He was now at the babysitter’s house. He then knocked on the door to see the babysitter there right away. Straight away James greeted her and asked for his baby sister. Then a minute later he was holding his sister, hugging her so tightly because of how long he hasn't see her. He took his sister to his parents happily. It was such a nice day after all. Probably the best day he had had so far. Finally he had reached his parents at the hospital. He watched his parents with his sister for a moment before the bells of the village started clinging and clanging on it's boundaries.
"The village is being attacked," James said
"The people came back with reinforcements!" James cried.
He ran grabbed his weapons and started fighting, he couldn't resist it. He couldn't just stands on the side and watch people die protecting him and the village. He wanted to fight. He thought to himself, if I die I'll be history. Remembered as the greatest army member yet.
And so he fought. He took out most of the army members. Then suddenly there came a bang and a big pain in his leg. He had been shot in the leg with a bullet. What could he do now. He too now is injured. He thought he might as well let them kill him. He had been in the middle of the fight.
But before he could say anything he had been dragged out of the battle and rushed to the hospital. "Why did you save me?" James asked the man.
"You tried to save our village, so you deserve to live," The man said."It's not my choice," he continued
"Our village still needs saving, and your the only one that can help" he had finally finished speaking.
"True," James replied.
James had been stuck in hospital for a week now. They had removed the bullet and were trying to get the bone fixed so they made him have a bunch of milk because it has a lot of calcium. In the beginning he had no problem with it, but now it makes him feel sick.
Chapter 6: Fire Fire FIRE!
The war was over the village has won the battle. James, on the other hand was still laying in bed in the hospital. He was allowed to leave the next day. The nurses and doctors were keeping a close eye on him because the other two times he had gotten injured he had sneaked out without permission, always for the same reason, to continue fighting. The next morning James left the hospital it was still early morning. He saw a rather big figure flying above him in the sky, but before he could make out what it was, a flame came down from the figures mouth burning everything in it's way.
Then it flew away. He called all the people in the village and showed them the figure flying away from the village. It was black with a little bit of red with blue spikes going down his spine. He told them it was a dragon and that was what burned down part of the village. From then on the city started to believe dragons are real. They started making fire-proof material and stuff like that. But little did they know this was all just the beginning of a new story. Every now and then dragons would come and raid the city looking for food, kidnapping humans and so on. James every time a dragon comes gets forced to go and fight it. Of course he couldn't beat it, but it was worth a try.
One day a dragon came to raid the village. James got sent to fight it. He was fighting his hardest. James
back-flipped over the dragons waving claw, pulled out his bow and shot it in the eye. The dragon let out a loud shriek then tried to hit James but missed. Then the dragon let out a burst of flames from its mouth, James tried to dodge but the flames spread rather than going in one straight line. James got heavily burned. The chief sent the archers, they didn't stop shooting, causing the dragon to retreat. One brave archer ran into the fire to save James. He succeeded, he brought James out of the fire. Turns out that brave archer was Ron, James's childhood best-friend.
James was laying in bed recovering. He couldn't do anything else. One day while he was recovering, a dragon came and raided the city. there was no defence. The archers came to try and protect the village, but it was no use, they got defeated from one blast of flames from the dragon. Next the dragon went to James's house burned it open, took him and flew away.
James tried to resist but he couldn't do too much because he was still injured. The dragon took him down to the cave and put him in a cage made of hard mossy wood. James still had his weapons on his back even though he was injured, and because he was injured, he didn't try to escape.
Chapter 7: The Egg
After a few days of sitting in the cave, James has recovered. But he was still plotting an escape. He needs to get out somehow. He can't just stay there and die in the cave. He has his parents to get back to, and a village to protect. Suddenly an idea pops up in his mind. He uses his sword to break the wood and escape. But on the way to the cave entrance he spots an egg, he takes it and runs as fast as he can trying to avoid any of the dragons noticing the egg has disappeared. When he got home he made a small fire and put the egg inside he kept the fire on for two days before it hatched.
It was little, had no scales and was black with tiny patches of red. James now had to feed the dragon and himself. He is now living in a house by himself. Now he needed to go and buy milk for the baby dragon. Maybe a gallon or two.
"Hmm, maybe, I'll call you Drago," James said aloud.
Drago gave a soft quiet roar of happiness. After that, James went to the kitchen to grab the milk he had just bought. He took it and put it in his room, he grabbed Drago and put him in his room as well. Then he started feeding him milk till he got full. James was surprised, Drago had drank five whole litres. And he's still a newborn, not even a day old yet.
4 years later:
James has now gotten older and stronger, and so has Drago. He has gotten old enough the spikes on his back is visible. He can fly as well. James has been taking him out for training every two days. He knows how to control his fire breathing and he can now even fly with James on his back (he still struggles a little with that). So Drago is slowly getting stronger with his owners command.
Drago is also the reason James is getting stronger because he has to be calmed down by something when he loses control, and that's what James does.
