In the year 1773, there lived a young American man named Samuel Adams in the busy city of Boston, Massachusetts. Samuel was just a regular man who worked as a soldier, politician, philosopher, and most importantly, a tax collector.

At this time, the thirteen colonies were under British rule by King George III. To keep the colonies under control, the king started to tax the American colonies on basic goods like paper, glass, and especially, tea.

The colonists in America had absolutely no say in the decisions making of the king, making Samuel and other Americans, who loved drinking tea, very upset at the King.

When the British passed the Tea Act, this forced colonists to buy tea only from the British East India Company, while still paying a tax to the British.

Samuel Adams and another American politician, John Hancock had enough of the British taxes. They joined together to form the Sons of Liberty.

Together, Adams and Hancock created one of the most famous and impactful groups at the time of the American Revolution.

On December 16, 1773, at approximately 10:00 AM, Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty gathered at the largest building in Boston at the time, Old South Meeting House, to come up with a plan.

“This meeting can do nothing more to save the country!" Said Adams.

Another politician and lawyer, James Otis Jr famously said, “No taxation without representation”, becoming the most famous quote related to the Boston Tea Party.

The daring plan was created, to disguise the Sons of Liberty as Native Americans to sneak into the Boston Harbor, where the British Ships were located.

There, dressed in blankets and painted faces, the Sons of Liberty were to dump every ounce of tea that the British ships had into the harbor.

“Are you sure? This is a risky plan.” Said the Sons of Liberty.
