Dedicated to Mr. Novak

Thanks for teaching us all about History! And thanks for putting up with us! We always loved coming into your class and getting food! We love you!

Hi there! My name is Ben and I am one of the Sons of Liberty. I know what you’re thinking: “What’s a Son of Liberty?”. Well, we’re just a group of guys who are fed up with King George from England. He thinks he can boss us around, but guess what? We are not going to let that happen!

Watch out because tonight is going to be huge!

It was a dark, quiet night in Boston. One of those nights where you’d expect to hear only creaking of down and soft sound of the wind. But not tonight. Tonight, my friends and I were on a mission that would go down in history.
“We’re doing this, right?”, I asked Samuel Adam’s, the leader of our group. I’ve never seen someone smile that big.
“You bet we are”, Samuel said, reassuring me with a slap on the back. “The King doesn’t know what’s coming!”

Here’s the thing. King George, that fancy King across the ocean, thought he could make us pay extra money for tea. This isn’t just any tea, it’s his tea too! Every time we have bought a cup of tea, we had to pay him money!
We were sick of it. So sick of it!

“You know what we need?”, Samuel said. “Disguises.”
“Disguises? Like what?”, I asked.
“We’ll dress like Native Americans!”, Samuel exclaimed, laughing. “No one will know who we are.”

That’s when the fun really began.
We grabbed old clothes, feathers, beads, and face paint. I can’t even explain how ridiculous we looked, but hey, it was our secret weapon!
“Ready for a big night?”, Samuel asked.
“Ready!”, we all shouted, even though I was secretly wondering if we looked too ridiculous.

We snuck through the dark streets of Boston, our boots thudding on the cobblestones with every step. The moon was high and there was a jolting chill in the air, but we didn’t care. We had a job to do.

Samuel held up a hand and said, “Shhh! Stay quiet! We don’t want to want anyone up!”
“I’m ready!”, I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest.
We rounded the corner and saw the ships in the harbor, the ones filled with all King George’s tea waiting to be unloaded.
The plan was simple. We needed to get rid of that tea quick. And with a splash, I grabbed my first crate and tossed it over the ride of the ship. It landed in the water with a loud crash.
“Splash!” It landed in the water with a loud crash.
One by one, we tossed crate after crate of tea into the harbor. The water turning into a sea of tea!
