Chapter 1: I am a Writer Who Likes...

    My name is Madison Copeland. Most people call me Madi or Ms. Copeland. I like to play sports and read books. But most of all, I like to write. I am a writer who likes to write about personal experiences and some of my favorite memories. I always have, even in elementary school. I feel that writing about my personal experiences and memories provides me with a way to reflect on who I was before and who I am now and ways that I can continue to grow as a person. I like to write freely, without being worried about mechanics. I like to write my thoughts and write as a form of therapy. No matter how it comes out, I think it is important to get them off my mind and on paper.

Chapter 2: I am a Writer Who Doesn't Like...

    I am a writer who doesn’t like writing to answer a prompt or writing about topics that do not interest me. When there are too many rules or too many concepts that I need to incorporate in order to get a passing grade, I feel overwhelmed and the writing is no longer fun or therapeutic for me. 

Chapter 3: As a Student, my Writing...

    As a young student, my writing was detailed and funny when it was a topic that I was interested in. For example, in my 5th grade autobiography you can hear my voice within my writing. It is funny and honest because it was easy for me to write about my own experiences. As I got older, my writing became dull and clearly was done just for the grade. In high school, I often struggled with adding detail and expanding on my ideas. I was writing about topics that were not of interest to me; I did not have any ideas to expand on or things to say. My writing as a student went from fun and exciting to just enough to get a passing grade.
