Martin Luther King was a highly influential leader in the civil rights movement. He fought hard for equality and did so in a peaceful manner. He had a dream, a dream so big and beautiful, that it changed the course of history and how we all live today.
For my little dreamers Satya, Sudi, and Syra.

Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born to the parents of Alberta and Martin Luther King Sr.

Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born to the parents of Alberta and Martin Luther King Sr.
Unfortunately, Martin grew up in a time period where racism ran rampant. There were people who did not like him and people who had brown skin

In the year of 1935, at the tender age of six, the harsh realities of segregation became apparent. He was no longer able to play with his friend just because they had different skin colors.
It was this hate that planted a seed of hope and sadness within Martin's heart. He couldn't understand why things were this way.
Martin was a very intelligent child growing up. This allowed him to skip two grades and enter college at the age of 15.
It was during his time in college that Martin learned about a man named Gandhi and the philosophy of nonviolence and peace.
The 1960's were a time filled with hate. Many African Americans were not given the same rights as White Americans. There were rules put in place to keep them seperate from each other. This didn't sit right with Martin.
When Martin reached adulthood he became a prominent figure in the fight for equality. Martin dared to dream of a world where people of ALL colors could live together peacefully.
Martin led many peaceful protests, such as boycotts and marches, in hopes of achieving equality for all.
He fought for equality for years. His most famous speech was held on August 28, 1963. It was during this speech he told the world about his dream!
He dreamed of living in a nation where his four little children would not be judged by the color of their skin, but the content of their character.
