October 1, 2025 6:30 A.M.

    My clock said that it's already 6:30. I quickly rolled out of bed and got dressed. I was so excited. It was my very first day at my new job as a line worker. I proudly smiled as I pulled on my crisp new uniform: an FR (flame resistant) white shirt and tan pants. If the clothes were not FR, I wouldn't be as safe in case of an "arc flash" (a very hot electricity explosion in the shape of an arc). I ran downstairs for breakfast.

October 1, 2025 6:50 A.M.

    When I finished getting dressed, I ran downstairs to eat breakfast, which was pancakes, a banana, and tea. Just as I was finishing breakfast, my phone rang.

October 1, 2025 7:05 A.M.

    ''Hello, this is Millie.'' I said on the phone. 

    A voice responded with ''Hello, I'm your boss and I have something very important to tell you. The power line on Main Street stopped working and I was wondering if you could help fix it. I also need you to find the mysterious cause of the outage.''

    ''Sure,'' I said, ''I can help.''    

    ''Great, I will pair you up with two other employees to help you solve this mystery." 

October 1, 2025 7:15 A.M.

    When my new boss's voice disappeared, I hugged my dog, Bao, grabbed my phone and keys, and ran out the door to my car. 

October 1, 2025 8:00 A.M.

    When I got to Main Street, I noticed a blonde haired girl inspecting the power line with another girl. I walked over and introduced myself. 

    "Hello, my name is Millie. Are you my new partners?"

    "Yes." The blond girl responded. "My name is Aubrey and this is Kate."

     Aubrey motioned to the other girl.

    "It's raining, we should talk about this mystery inside my office." Kate said.

October 1, 2025 8:15 A.M.

Inside Kate's office we discussed the mystery.

    ''What if it has something to do with the weather?'' I asked.

    "Maybe because it's been raining every day for a long time.'' Aubrey said.

''There's a hurricane." Kate said with a shrug, answering Aubrey's question.  

    ''Wait, what did you say?" I asked.

    ''There's a hurricane." Kate repeated.

    "That's it! The hurricane's winds must have knocked down the power lines!" I exclaimed, excited to have solved the mystery. 

    "I just got a notification from our boss that because the winds are over 30 mph, we can't go outside." Aubrey concluded. 

October 1, 2025 8:25 A.M.

    Soon after we figured out that the problem was the weather, my phone rang. 

    "Hello, this is Millie." I said into the phone.

    "How's my maintenance crew going?" my Boss said.

    "What's a maintenance crew?"

     "A maintenance crew is a crew who makes sure lines, poles, and underground equipment stay working."

    "Cool!" 

    "How are you guys doing?"

    I then explained how the weather had been the cause.

   "Good job. Now please clean up the area where the lines are broken, now that the winds have died down." My boss said as he hung up.
