Amelia Earhart
An American aviator pioneer, who was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.
Hello! My name is Amelia Earhart, and I am an American aviator pioneer. I became interested in flying in 1920, when I attended my first air show in California! When I rode passenger in an airplane for the first time, I knew I was destined to fly.

1921 was a big year for me. That year, I started taking flying lessons, and I bought my first plane, the Kinner Airster. It was bright yellow, and I named it “The Canary”

A short time later in 1922, I broke my first record! I became the first woman to reach 14,000 feet in the air, breaking the women’s altitude record.

My life then changed drastically when I received a life changing call. “How would you like to be the first woman to fly the Atlantic?” And before I knew it, I was joining pilot Wilmer Stultz and co-pilot Louis E. Gordon, on my way to make history.

After this amazing achievement, I then wrote my own book called “20 hours and 40 minutes,” because that was how long it took for us to fly across the Atlantic Ocean!

At this point in time, my whole world revolved around flying, and I was changing the way women were perceived in the flying industry one milestone at a time. I then went on to help find the Ninety-Nines. We were an organization of 99 women pilots celebrating female flyers.

Now, I have had a lot of achievements in my life, but the one people know me best for is flying solo across the Atlantic Ocean! Not to mention, I was the first woman to do it too. I set flight from Newfoundland all the way to Paris! I received a gold medal by President Hoover, from the National Geographic Society.

From then on out, I broke so many records it’s hard to keep track! After my solo trip across the Atlantic, I was the first woman to fly solo nonstop coast to coast and I was the first person to fly 2,408 miles solo across the Pacific Ocean!

As my career took off in the previous years, I decided it was time to make an even bigger goal for myself. I was going to be the first woman to fly all the way around the world. They called it, the flight around the world.
