Andrea Flores has always been a shy and
quiet girl. She is happy but because she is shy,
she rarely speaks to people and has very few
friends. She does has one close friend. Her
name is Yolanda and Yolanda is the opposite of
Andrea. She is very outgoing, talkative and
energetic.

Andrea and Yolanda have been friends since
the third grade. That is when Yolanda saved
Andrea from being left alone on the bus
during a field trip. Andrea was asleep!
These girls are so close that they even have
nicknames for each other. Andrea calls
Yolanda, Yoli. Yolanda calls Andrea, Mimi
because Mimi means sleep in her language.

Ten years have passed and Mimi has
a secret no one knows. Mimi can sing
and she can sing really good. But
Mimi will not sing in front of anyone,
not even her parents or her brothers.
They have only heard her sing when
she sings in the shower. Sometimes
her mom will stand outside the door
and listen the whole time she's in
there.

One day, Yoli got to Mimi's house early
to pick her up to go shopping. Mimi was
still in the shower. Yoli heard her sing
and was amazed. When Mimi was done
she went to her room to find Yoli there.
Yoli said, "Wow, you sing really good."
But all Mimi said was, "Thank you."
Mimi was embarrassed. She has little
self esteem when it comes to her singing.
Yoli really thought she was good so she
recorded Mimi without Mimi knowing.

Yoli decided to send the recording of
Mimi to a music company. She did
not tell anyone she was doing this. A
few days later, she received a
response. She was in shock on what
the letter said. They want Mimi to
make an album! She immediately
drove to Mimi's house. She ran up
the lawn yelling Mimi's name. She
got to the front door and was
knocking so energeticly, Bam, Bam,
Bam! Mimi's answered the door
frighten thinking something was
wrong. Yoli tried to calm down to
talk. She told Mimi, about the letter.
Mimi sat down and didn't say
anything.

Yoli was surprised that Mimi said nothing. She couldn't tell if Mimi was happy, sad or mad.
After a few minutes, Yoli said, "Mimi, are you ok?" All Mimi said was, "How could you do this
Yoli?" Yoli replied, "I thought you would be happy that the music company liked you and want
you to make a album." "I am happy," Mimi said, "but I can't sing in front of people" Mimi was
remembering what happened to her in 8th grade. Yoli made her sign up for the talent show.
When she got on stage, she froze and then burst into tears. She dropped the mic and ran off
the stage.

Yoli had forgotten about the talent show. She felt so bad for making Mimi sign up for it then and
now. Yoli didn't know what to do. She didn't want to make Mimi do something she didn't really
want to, then Yoli thought of something. She told Mimi she had to leave to make a phone call.
Mimi called the music company and told them about how shy Mimi was. The record company liked
her so much, they said they would send some recording equipment to Mimi and have her record
some songs herself.

Mimi heard the doorbell ring and was surprised to see a big box addressed to her and Yoli. She
immediately called Yoli to come over. When she got there the girls opened the box and all the
recording stuff was in it. Both girls were happier than a dog on a skateboard. Mimi right away
took out the equipment and wanted to start recording. She had been writing songs for years and
keeping them safely under her mattress. She pulled them out. Just then she realized she could
sing in front of Yoli.
Mimi recorded a total of eight songs and sent them to the music company. But when she sent
them she asked for her real name not to be used. She wanted to go by the name of Silence.

Not long after sending the songs she received a letter in the mail. It said,
"Congratulations Silence, your album named "The Power of Silence" has been
made and is sure to be a success." Two weeks later she received a call saying
one of her songs was number one on the music charts.
