Anatomy and physiology 1 2025

In the magical Kingdom of Motion, Sir Spark the Royal Messenger, waits in the Brain Tower to fulfill his motor neuron duties.
One day, a scroll arrives: “Kick the soccer ball!”

Sir Spark grabs his lightning sword and gallops down the Axon Path.

Far below, the Leg Kingdom prepares for action. Its castle walls are made of sarcomeres, tiny towers that stretch and squeeze to make the kingdom move.
Sir Spark’s scroll is no ordinary message, it’s an action potential, a magical spark that travels fast and far.
He strides toward the neuromuscular junction, where the castle gates await.

The Axon Path is long and winding, but Sir Spark’s energy never fades. He races toward the synaptic cleft, the gate between the nerve and the muscle castle.
At the gate, Sir Spark tosses glowing vesicles filled with acetylcholine (ACh) at it. The potions land on enchanted locks called receptors on the motor end plate.

With a flash, the gates unlock! Sodium ions (Na⁺) rush in like sparkles, creating a motor end plate potential

The castle begins to glow. The glow spreads across the sarcolemma, the castle’s outer wall. It’s a magical ripple that tells every tower, “Prepare to move!”
The signal dives into the T-tubules, secret tunnels beneath the castle.
Sir Spark rides deeper, carrying the message to the heart of the Leg Kingdom.

Deep inside, the sarcoplasmic reticulum opens its vaults.
Out pour glowing calcium ions (Ca²⁺) through voltage-sensitive calcium channels, ready to awaken the castle’s warriors.

Calcium meets Troponin, the Gatekeeper Knight.

With a nod, Troponin signals Tropomyosin to step aside and reveal the hidden actin ropes.

The mighty myosin knights grab the actin ropes, forming cross-bridges. It’s time for the royal tug-of-war!

With a mighty pull called the power stroke, the knights drag the actin ropes toward the center of the sarcomere.

The towers contracts , the Leg Kingdom kicks!

To pull again, the knights need energy. They drink ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the Potion of Power, which helps them release and reset.

With every pull, the sarcomere towers shorten.
