on the
Tight rope

My name is Emma, and monday is the worst day in the week (in my opinion), i just want to skip every monday.
here are some of the reasons why monday is the worst.
When i fell off my bike, it was a monday.
When i lost my phone, it also happened monday.
Chapter 1
Tuna salad monday

These reasons just say monday is seriously not my day and it will never be.
For example, today as i was in math class, i forgot i left my notebook in my locker.. and i flew out of the classroom to find it but then, with absolutely perfect timing, Olivia and Kasey walked up to me.
"What are you on? You should be in math class" Olivia frowned and put her hands on her hips.
"Aren't you supposed to be in math class too?" I snapped, pushing them aside to get to my locker, but i forgot the key... ugh!
"Did you forget something, Emma?" Kasey teased.
Now what was i gonna do?
i ran back to the math classroom and the teacher, Miss Marianne was grouchy at me.
More monday trouble, i tought.
So i walked up to her and told her the truth, the very truth. I don't normally do that, because the very truth can sometimes also mean the very trouble, but just then, the bell rang for lunctime.
I was glad to finally fly away from that troubling classroom for the day!
so i ran over to the cafeteria to find my friends. Mia, Sophie and Elizabeth were all sitting on a table with
their lunch boxes open. Well, all exept for Elizabeth, who always buys her lunch.
My friends and i formed the Sisters Club, we called it the Sisters Club instead of the Cake Club because we are such close friends that we are like sisters.
I slid down in my seat and checked my backpack for my lunch sack.
Oops. Left it in my locker.
Luckily, i always bring some pocket money with me, just in case. I walked over with Elizabeth, who carried her lunch tray with one hand, she was giggling.
"hey, Emma!" Elizabeth said, setting her tray on the
Counter and smiling at me.
"What's for lunch today?" I asked.
Elizabeth looked confused.
"Don’t you bring your lunch?" She replied.
"I do, because brought lunch is much better than bought lunch" i said quickly.
"Then, why are you here, buying lunch?" Asked Elizabeth. I slapped my forehead with my hand.
"because i left my lunch in my locker and i lost my key! Clumsy me" i joked.
Elizabeth giggled.
"today we got tuna salad for lunch" she said.
Eek.
Tuna salad is disgusting.
"Uh.. is there something else? apart from tuna salad" just saying it made my stomach feel wierd.
"Yes, there is meat loaf and mashed potatoes" Elizabeth knows i am squeamish for fish.
"i will go for the meat loaf" i said, i wasn't crazy for meat loaf, but maybe it would save me from starving
Elizabeth nodded as she served herself tuna salad.
"suit yourself" she scooped a bunch of gooey salad with chopped fish and mayonese.
Eew.
I tryed not to look at the disgusting salad, but Elizabeth sat right in front of me, back in the lunch table.
What? You suppose i eat with my eyes closed?
I picked at the meat loaf with my fork.
Mia spoke up.
"Hey, you know that girl, Maya Wainwright?" She said to Elizabeth "she is in my class"
"Don’t" Elizabeth said, her mouth full of tuna.
Mia giggled.
Just then i spotted my friend, Callie Wellard, sitting in a table with Olivia and Kasey.
But because i was hyperlazy and superstarving, i called her.
The phone ringed for a few seconds until Callie picked up.
"Hi, Cal? Weren't you supposed to be eating with me?" I asked.
"You are crazy to call me when you can literally walk up to me and talk to me, but you better not do that because i am with my friends" Callie answered.
Uhm.. okay??
"what friends, Cal?" i asked, but she hung up.
I called her again.
This time, Sophie asked me "are you calling your friend from that table?" She pointed to Callie, and i nodded.
"Its Callie! Leave a message"
I left my message.
"Callie, can we talk?" And i jammed my phone in my pocket.
Wierd, she never dumped me like that.
I guess there is a first time for everything.
After i was home, i called Callie again, one more time, i never like to press people, she dosn't have to talk to me if she dosn't want to, i won't force her.
But i was awed that she had dumped me like that, after we formed the Sisters Club, i started to see her less and less, so i had asked her to come eat with us in lunctime, but she never actually showed up.
And now i knew why.
Chapter 2
Callie and her cool club

💔
But maybe there was a reasonable explanation to it.
I hope.
The phone rang and rang some more until Callie picked up, her voice was softer now.
"Hi, Callie!" i burst out.
"Hello, Emma" Callie answered.
"Uh, what happened at lunch today, Cal?" I asked and i wondered if she liked to be called Cal. "Do you mind being called Cal?" I asked, just to be sure that wasn't why she hung up at lunch.
"I don’t mind" she assured me.
Great!
"So uh--" i stammered, i didn’t know how to say it.
"Emma, you have to understand i am busy" Callie said like it was truly important.
"Busy making friends" i muttered.
"No! I.. i am busy with other things, it is just, now that.. uh, well" Callie struggled "i met other new friends, and we.."
Good, now she is saying i am no longer her friend?
"You what?" I snapped.
"We formed a club" Callie finished.
a club?!
callie in a club?
"A club?" I asked "what club?"
"Just like you have your 'Sisters Club' i now have my Cool Club, the coolest one in town" Callie bragged.
Oh.
"So you are saying our club is not cool? I am not cool?" I sighed.
"no, it is just that.. i prefer our Cool Club" Callie answered truthfully.
"It is okay, no big deal" i was near tears.
"sorry Emma, but i have new friends" Callie answered.
I no longer felt like talking, so i hung up
I never imagined Callie joining our Sisters Club, she usually minds her own beeswax, but i never imagined her formimg her own club either.
just then, Elio burst in my room, knocking off some pictures i had hanged on my door.
"What are you doing?" She asked.
"nothing, just calling my friend, if you can even call her a friend" i muttered, scooping up the pictures.
"Sophie?" Elio asked.
"no" i said.
"Mia? Or Elizabeth?" Elio grabbed a picture.
"No!" I said, yanking the picture off her hands.
"Then, what friend is it?" Elio stomped her foot.
"Mind your own business" i snapped.
Elio looked ready to cry, but she was used to my teenager tantrums as much as i was used to her baby tantrums.
My older sister, Katie walked in, and when she saw my face red, Elio sobbing, and a mess of scraps and pictures on the floor, Katie asked "is.. uh, this good timing?" And turned to Elio.
"Absolutely, there couldn't be a more PERFECT timing to come talk to me, Elio messed up my pictures, my friend dumped me to join a new club, and.."
I sobbed, Katie looked hurt, but so was i.
She dragged Elio out of my room and closed the door. Now i felt awful for being mean to my two sisters.
The next day, as i walked to school, i ran into Sophie, Mia and Elizabeth.
"Hi, girls" i said quietly, walking up to them.
"hi" said Mia "how are you doing?"
"Awful" i shrugged.
"awful?! What do you mean awful? What happened?" Elizabeth widened her eyes like plates.
"My 'friend' Callie just dumped me" i sulked.
Chapter 3
inspiration

"She dumped you? No way!" Mia cried.
"She told me she made a new club!" I shrieked.
"no" Sophie said, shocked.
"Callie? Callie Wellard?" Mia asked.
i nodded sadly.
"Her club is named Cool Club, right?" Elizabeth asked.
"how do you know?" I asked her.
"Callie is in my class, she brags about it all the time"
said Elizabeth.
"and i heard her Kasey say to her in the cafeteria that our Sisters Club is the worst club, and Callie agreed!"
Mia's words were too much, i couldn't believe Callie would agree to our club being the worst!
"I need emotional support" i whispered, near tears. "i will go to the mall after school"
Mia looked embarrased to have hurt my feelings.
"I will go with you" Sophie said, glaring at Mia.
she is the best friend ever.
When school ended, i met Sophie in the bus stop near the school parking lot and we waited for the bus to come.
"I.. uh" i didn’t know what to say to Sophie.
"You?" Said Sophie and smiled encouragingly.
She knows i get tounge-tied when i am nervous.
I kept tripping over my words.
I couldn't ask her if Callie was in her class, because i knew, and the rest of the members of the Sisters Club knew, that Sophie was two years older than us, so she passed to sixth grade. And obviously Callie wasn't in sixth, she was in fifth, in Elizabeth's class.
"I can't believe what a friend Callie turned out to be" said Sophie finally.
"Me niether! And we have known since first grade!" I said.
Sophie was speechless.
"I don’t know how we went from going to the movies together and doing sleepovers every week, to" i imitated Callie's voice "the Sisters Club stinks, i want to dump Emma because she is no longer my friend!"
Sophie raised her palms in the air.
"Girl, chill!" She giggled.
Maybe i do need to chill.
The bus parked in and Sophie and i climbed on.
As soon as we got on, we discovered we had just gotten on a hot oven, it was so full! And hot, indeed hot because the air conditioner wasn't working.
And it smelled like sweat everywhere, people squished me flat like a pancake many times, and one man even managed to stomp a big print on my new white shoes!
"Watch it!" I yelled at the man, who turned around, looking embarrased.
"chill, Emma!" Sophie grabbed my arm.
I was going to keep yelling at the man, but he disappeared in the crowd of people fast.
i looked down at my shoe and i did a face.
when we got to the mall, i was sweating.
