The Storm and the Missing Ocean Rainbow

Once upon a time, deep beneath the sparkling blue waters, lived a kind mermaid princess named Pearl in the kingdom of Mertopia. She loved adventures with her best friend, Cora.
One morning, Pearl and Cora were at Seaside High School, learning bubble fractions from their teacher, Miss Finora, who had an orange, shiny tail, glasses made of seashells and wore a pearl necklace. As Miss Finora waved her tail to make glowing math bubbles, the classroom suddenly rattled. Dark clouds gathered, and the water began to tremble violently.

"I did not expect this," Miss Finora said, looking worried. "Everyone, hold on tight until the storm vanishes!"
A heavy, terrifying storm roared through the school. Pearl gripped a rock, fighting not to be swept away. When the shaking finally stopped, Pearl slowly opened her eyes. The coral walls were now a dull gray. The ocean's glow was completely gone. Even worse, she looked down at her own tail and her beautiful, sparkling fins no longer glowed. Everything had faded. It was like the magic had gone.
Lying in bed, Pearl worried about the storm and the terrible change that followed. Her tail's glow was gone, and she had lost her power of light.
"I must help the sea restore its rainbow colors," she thought.
The next morning, she shared her idea with Cora, who immediately agreed. Pearl sat up, eyes bright with a new plan. "Cora," she whispered. "We have to find the rainbow's colors in order, starting with red. Cora swam closer. "I read about it," Pearl continued, determined.

"We need the seven rainbow gems to restore the power of the Seashell Control in Mertopia. That's how we bring back the glow!"
Cora nodded firmly. "Then let's go right now!"
Pearl smiled. "Not yet! We need to pack snacks and a net. Our adventure starts tomorrow!" As the dim, grey ocean light faded, Pearl closed her eyes, picturing the gems. With Cora beside her, she knew they would save Mertopia and bring back the Ocean Rainbow.

The Search for the Red Sparkle
They followed the map found in the book, which glowed faintly with a gentle light, guiding them through the dull ocean. Finally, they arrived at the Red Reef. Instead of bright, colorful coral, it's shadowy and grey now, but then they see it, a soft glowing light, reddish light! In the center, a small underwater volcano gently bubbles with warm, red lava. And right on top, sparkling brilliantly, is the Red Gem!
"How do we get the gem from the lava?" asked Cora.
Pearl swam closer to the bubbling red lava, her dull pink hair floating around her head. She studied the bright gem stuck right on top.
Pearl thought, “Maybe we should try using our net to get the gem out of the lava.”
“Let’s try it. It’s the only thing we could do,” replied Cora, her voice full of determination. Pearl carefully took the net from her bag.
They swam right up to the edge of the warm, thick red lava and they held the stick together and as soon as the net touched the red surface, the lava began to react! Big, loud bubbles started exploding around the net. Pearl and Cora held their breath, gripping the net tightly and bravely pushing forward.
Pop! Pop! Pop! went the bubbles. But they kept their focus on the shimmering Red Gem. With one final, careful push, they managed to scoop the gem right into the net. They quickly and safely pulled it out.

There was a flicker of light everywhere!
“We got the first gem!” said Pearl with joy and happiness, holding the net with the beautiful red gem inside. “Now, on to the next part of the rainbow, orange.
The Shimmering Orange & the Pirate Duel
"Next is orange!" Pearl exclaimed. They checked the map. "Oh no," whispered Cora, pointing to a pirate symbol. "We have to get into the pirate hut!"
They swam toward the huge, dark wooden Pirate Hut, filled with floating golden coins, diamonds, and glittering jewels.

Peeking through a crack, they saw pirates counting treasure and others playing the Pirate Duel, a game of rock paper scissors, a challenge for the biggest jewel.
The map indicated they needed to get past the duelers.
The Shimmering Orange Gem, glowing inside a crystal bottle, sat on a high shelf near the playing pirates.
"We need a distraction," Pearl whispered. "Cora, grab that rock and throw it far away from the gem so we can escape," Pearl instructed. Cora picked up a small rock and tossed it to the opposite corner of the hut.
CLACK!
"What was that?" a pirate growled.
"A ghost in the hut!" another whispered nervously.
The three duelers immediately stopped their game and headed toward the noise, holding their lanterns high. "We have to be fast," Pearl whispered, grabbing the flexible stick they used for the red gem.
Pearl carefully pushed the stick up, aimed it at the crystal bottle holding the gem, and gently pulled it down. Cora quickly grabbed the bottle. Pearl tucked it into her bag.

"Let's go, go, go!" whispered Cora.
They silently slipped out just as the pirates started complaining. A warm, golden orange light flashed across the grey ocean from Pearl's bag.
"Two down! Next is yellow!" Pearl said, bubbling with excitement.
The Yellow Gem of Joy Lagoon
They headed to their next stop, the Lagoon."At least it's not something bad or evil," Cora replied, relieved. Pearl simply shook her head.
When they reached the lagoon, they saw many sun bubbles, but they were completely colorless.
Then, their eyes fixed on a huge sun right above the water. Inside the heart of the sun was the gem.
"The gem is stuck in the hot sun," Pearl whispered.

"We can't get it! It'll be too hot," Cora worried. They tried using their net, but the heat instantly burned it away, proving it was hotter than molten lava.
"How will we get the gem?" Cora asked, desperate.
"I don't know," Pearl replied, her brow furrowed.
As they searched desperately, they spotted a keyhole on the sun's surface.
"I saw a key back in the pirate hut!" Cora remembered.
"No way!" Pearl refused immediately. "I am not going back there!" "We have to," Cora insisted. "It's the only way."
Pearl finally agreed. Devising a plan, she decided she would create a distraction so Cora could sneak in. "I'll become one of them, just for a little while," Pearl announced.
Pearl quickly fashioned a pirate disguise using ocean materials: a seaweed bandana, shell buttons, a driftwood sword, and a crab shell mask. "That is one pretty pirate," Cora commented, hiding a giggle.
Pearl swam to the nearest pirate. "Hello," she grumbled, mimicking a gruff voice. "I want to challenge you in a Pirate Duel!" She kept the pirates distracted until Captain Iron Hook swaggered over, demanding,
"Who is this?"

"My name is Ravena," Pearl declared.
Meanwhile, Cora quickly found the key on a dusty shelf and gave Pearl the signal. "I have to get going," Pearl announced, swimming back breathlessly.
They rushed back to the lagoon. Cora inserted the key, and with a soft chime and a rush of sparkling bubbles, the Yellow Gem of Joy was released. Pearl secured the gem with the red and orange stones. The two mermaids celebrated, swimming in happy circles. "Three down, four to go!" Cora cheered, bursting with energy. "We're going to save Mertopia!"
The Green Seaweed Garden
"Next is the Green Gem. The map points to the Green Garden, Cora announced. "I hope this one's easy," Pearl replied. They entered the garden and immediately spotted the gem shimmering far off in an enormous maze. Closer to the gem, they saw a gigantic, seaweed covered creature.
"I think we have to face that monster," Cora said nervously. "We've come too far. Nothing can stop me now," Pearl insisted. They entered the maze.
