He took care of sheep, played music on his harp, and loved God with all his heart.Even though David was small and not very important, God had big plans for him.
At that time, King Saul ruled Israel. Saul was not chosen by God to be king.
He did not always listen or obey God. Because of this, God chose David to be the future king.
David and the Giant
One day, Israel faced a terrible enemy. A giant named Goliath shouted and scared everyone. No one was brave enough to fight him except David!
David trusted God. With only a sling and a stone, he faced the giant. God helped David, and the giant fell. Everyone saw that God was with David.
King Saul became jealous of David. He was afraid David would take his throne, so he chased David away. David had to hide in caves and travel from place to place.
After many years, David became the king of Israel. He led the people, protected the land, and tried to follow God.
The people loved David, and Israel became strong.
But David was not perfect.
