-took her first flying lesson in 1921 when she was 23 yrs old.
-She bought her first plane shortly after and named it "The canary".
**Fun fact: Amelia saw her first plane at the Iowa State Fair when she was 10 yrs old and said, "It was a thing of rusty wire and wood and looked not at all interesting."
What records did she set/break?
-She was the first person to fly solo from Los Angeles, California, to Mexico City, Mexico
**FUN FACT: When she first flew across the Atlantic ocean it took 20 hours and she was just a passenger. Although crowds hailed her as “Lady Lindy,” Earhart insisted she had been “just a sack of potatoes.”

**Fun fact** She did not like wearing aviator goggles while flying and would only wear them when necessary!
So Where is she now??
-Short Answer: No one knows!
-Long Answer: Amelia was attempting to fly around the world but on July 2, 1937 she was having weather and navigation issues and lost contact with the U.S. Coast guard. She was never heard from again and her plane was never found.

Amelia received honors even after her death. She was posthumously inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in 1968 and the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 1973.

-There were errors with communication, equiptment, and navigation that could have prevented her crash.
Her disappearance is one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of the 20th century!
