It was school holidays and we were all missing our friends. We would have people over to play, but it never seemed long enough. It was difficult to get everyone together. Verity, Olly, and Mummy sat at the kitchen table and wondered what they could do. Verity said, “Why don’t we all go to the park?” Olly was not so sure. Mummy said, “I will think about it!”
The next day, Verity, Olly, and Mummy sat at the kitchen table and again thought about what they could do to play with friends. Olly suggested going to Famer Ted’s farm. Mummy said, “Good idea but it is too far away.” Verity suggested the local theme park. Mummy said, “Too expensive.” They really did not know what to do. Mummy made tea and Olly got the biscuits from the pantry. Verity got the mail that had been delivered.
Whilst they drank the tea and ate the biscuits, Mummy went through the mail. She saw a flyer from the library mentioning about Book Week. Mummy told Olly and Verity about the activities that would take place at the library. “I know,” said Verity. “Know what?” said Olly. Verity said, “Why don’t we have our own Book Week party? We can dress up and play games and have fun.” Mummy thought it was a clever idea as this would get all the friends together. They all became excited about having a party at the house.
It all became terribly busy. The phone did not stop ringing. Friends accepted invitations. Mummy bought food and drink. Daddy cleaned and mowed the back garden. He put up a picnic table for the food and drink. He put out extra chairs for people to sit in. Daddy put up the beach umbrellas to provide shade. Balls, paddling pool, pond dipping nets, and kites were extra toys with which we could play. Mummy bought decorations and party bags. Daddy created a rainbow from ballons. The garden looked wonderful.
Olly came as an astronaut.
Verity came as a kangaroo.
At midday, people arrived.

Tom came as a snake.

Chloe came as a penguin.

Sam came as a tiger.

Imi came as an iguana.

Mary came as a mouse.

Henry came as a goat.

Harry came as a duck.

Matisse came as an octopus.

George came as a cat.
