A is for Agriculture     Agriculture is the science or
practice of farming. In the book,
      the author, discusses many
     different types of agriculture.

B is for Bacteria Omnivore's Dilemma talks about
many different 'super' bacteria, such
as E.coli. "E.coli 0157:H7 thrives
in feedlot cattle and 40 percent of
them carry it in their gut."

C is for CAFO     CAFO stands for Concentrated
       Animal Feeding Operation.
   The book discusses what happens
at CAFOs and how they are operated.
   "The waste from CAFOs is a huge
        source of toxic pollution."

D is for DDT     DDT is a persistent pesticide
    that can be hazardous to the
environment as well as the animals
    that live in that environment.

E is for Ethanol Ethanol is alcohol produced
by the fermentation of corn,
yeast and other grains.

F is for Fossil Fuels Fossil Fuels are used in large
amount during agricultural
processes, including packaging,
shipping, and planting the crops.

G is for GMO GMO stands for Genetically Modified
Organisms. The book talks about the
    effects that GMOs are believed to
        cause on animals and on the
     environment. "There are people in
many countries trying to stop the spread
    of genetically modified organisms."

H is for Hunter-GathererThe Hunter-Gatherer food chain is
"the oldest food chain there is. It is
made up simply of you, hunting,
growing, or finding your food.

I is for Industrial Food Chain         The Industrial food chain is
    "where most of our food comes
       from today. This chain starts
        [with] a single crop, corn or
          soybeans, ... and ends up
             in a supermarket or a
              fast-food restaraunt.

J is for Joel SalatinJoel Salatin is a third generation
alternative farmer. Joel owns a
family farm, called Polyface Inc.

K is for Koala      The Koala does not have to
   choose between a large variety
   of food. "The Koala gets all its
nutrients from eucalyptus leaves."

                L is for
Local Sustainable Food Chain     Local Sustainable Food is described
   as "food grown on small farms that ...
    does not have to be processes, and it
travels a short distance before it reaches
your table." Local Sustainable is a type
of agricultural practice that is discussed.

M is for MonsantoThe Monsanto Company is a
American multinational
agrochemical and agricultural
biotechnology corporation.

N is for Nitrogen Nitrogen is needed as a component
   in soil in order for plants to grow.
   The more nitrogen in the soil the
       better the plants will grow.

O is for OrganicOrganic foods are grown without the use
        of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers,
     sewage sludge, genetically modified
          organisms, or ionizing radiation.
     Animals that produce meat, poultry,
     eggs, and dairy products do not take
         antibiotics or growth hormones.
