MULAN!! RA RA RA!

After defeating the evil army, Mulan was a
celebrated hero all across China. People held
parties and festivals in Mulan’s honour.

However, Mulan was not happy...

After the battle had ended, females were still
not allowed to join the army. And now that
everyone knew that Mulan was born female,
she was not allowed to fight.
Even Li Shang, Mulan’s army friend,
thought Mulan should not fight and
should “dress like a girl.”
This made Mulan very unhappy.

Mulan did not feel comfortable wearing
what everyone called "girl's clothes" and
playing with "girl's toys."
Mulan did not feel like herself. It all felt wrong.
She always felt kind of "wrong."
Although Mulan was born in a female body,
she always felt like a boy on the inside.
It was not until she joined the army that
she felt like she could be herself.
So Mulan had an idea...

Mulan put her battle armour back on
and insisted that she only be addressed as “Ping”,
the name she used as a boy soldier.
Ping would also like us to stop calling him a “she”.

Li Shang was a bit confused at first,
but saw that Mulan was happier as Ping,
and no longer referred to Ping as a girl.

The other soldiers remembered Ping’s
bravery in the war and were happy to
have their most celebrated soldier back.
Ping was very happy.
Ping led the army to many glorious victories
and stories about "Ping the Warrior" began
to spread.

But the story of Mulan was still popular all over China.
Eventually, it reached a young girl named Meiling.
Meiling was inspired by the story of a girl joining
the army and wanted to join too.
She dressed as a warrior and travelled
to meet the legendary Mulan.

When Meiling arrived, she was
greeted by Ping and Li Shang.
Meiling told the boys that she wanted
to join the army, just like the hero Mulan!

Ping was excited to meet another person like him:
born a female on the outside, but on the inside
was really a boy.
“So you are a boy, too?” asked Ping.
“No, I am a girl,” replied Meiling. “I just want
to join the army and fight.”
“Oh, well, only boys can join the army,”
said a disappointed Ping.
