I have written to say that I am worried about the
endangered species, sea turtles. The sea turtle
species contains the Flatback, Green, Olive Ridley,
Hawksbill, Kemp’s Ridley, Leatherback, and
Loggerhead Sea Turtles. Sea Turtles are amazing
creatures, but are dying out due to less nesting
space, and pollution. Sea Turtles are highly
endangered, and scientists are worried that they
will become extinct in the next few years. Luckily,
many organizations are fighting to prevent this.
We need all the help we can get, and we need you.

Here are some reasons why Sea Turtles are
dying out. First of all, thousands of mother sea
turtles return to the exact beach from where
they hatched. They lay their eggs, which may be
hundreds, cover them up with sand, and then
they swim back into the ocean. The mother and
her children may never meet again. The problem
is, humans have built many hotels, and buildings
on the beach, taking up the space for sea turtle
nests. They are less space for nests, which leads
to lowering in the population of sea turtles.

Second of all, hardly any sea turtles make it
to the ocean. They are sometimes eaten,
because their shell has not fully hardened, but
there is also another problem. Little baby sea
turtles go to the first bright thing they see.
This is usually the ocean, because of the
moonlight, but the hotels that human hands
have built have some very bright lights. The
sea turtles are confused, and follow the lights
to the hotel. They starve to death.

Last of all, a Sea Turtle’s main prey
is jellyfish. But many people litter on
the beach. A large portion of this
trash is plastic bags. The tide carries
the bag out into the ocean. The
plastic bag looks just like a jellyfish,
so the Sea Turtle eats it. They
choke, and die.

So that is why Sea Turtles are endangered. A
Sea Turtles environment must be very
protected and clean. Sea Turtles live up to
their name. They live in the sea, and are a
type of turtle. There are around 300 Sea
Turtles in Florida, and Sea Turtles are stealing
the prize as the most endangered species,
and even more endangered than the
fascinating Giant Panda.
