Elvis lived with his mother in the basement of his grandparent's house. He had his own room, bed, dresser, and chair. In case of emergency he was to climb onto the bed, then the dresser, and then out the little window. His mom had him practice just in case, and Elvis had fun with it. Elvis liked his home.

Sometimes after school Elvis' mother would take him to the park and let him play. Afterwords, on the walk home they'd stop and get ice cream.

"Elvis, I have something I need to tell you." Mom said. "Grandma and Grandpa are going to be moving. They are going to live in Arizona and they invited us to come with them. I think it's best if we stay here though. But they are selling the house and we will need to find another place to live."
All of a sudden, Elvis wasn't interested in his ice-cream anymore. He just felt like walking home faster.

Life went on pretty much like normal. They all slowly began to pack their things up into boxes. One morning Elvis woke up to the noise of, "beep! beep! beep!"
He jumped out of bed and ran upstairs. Out the front window he saw a giant truck backing up to their house.

Soon a bunch of guys were running around, in and out of the house, carrying boxes and furniture outside and into the back of the truck. They didn't bother taking their boots off when they came inside. Elvis didn't like that they were breaking one of their house rules. He also wished he wasn't still in his pajamas.

Soon the house was empty. Grandpa and Grandma drove off following the truck to Arizona. Elvis and mom went back inside but without all their stuff it didn't feel much like home.
"We will stay at a hotel till our rental house is ready."

The day finally came for them to move into their next house.
"Your going to like it Elvis." Mom said. "You are going to have your own room and will be able to go to the same school. It's a real cute house, you'll see."
Elvis was pretty sure he wasn't going to like it but for his mom's sake he didn't say anything.
14
The day came to move in. As they drove up to the house Elvis couldn't help feel excited when he saw it. It was a pretty house, small, but he liked it. It has a big Maple tree in the front yard, a small porch, and it was painted yellow with white trim.

Elvis' mom let him have the bigger of the two bedrooms downstairs. The room had two doors. One was for the closet, the second, he wasn't sure. When he opened it there was a stair way that led up to the attic. It was real cool. The attic was unfinished but there was a lot of space up there with a window on either side of the house.

The next day after school when Elvis came home he remembered he didn't have a key yet. The front door was locked so he went around to the back door and it was open. Mom wasn't home from work yet so he poked around in the kitchen looking for a snack.
