The Creation
.
2
3
In the beginning Yahweh, created the heavens and the earth.
4
5
And Yahweh saw the light, that it was beneficial; and Yahweh divided between the light and between the darkness.
And Yahweh called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And the evening and then the morning were the First Day
6
7
And Yahweh said: Let there be an expanse between the waters and let there be separation between waters from the waters.
So Yahweh made the expanse, and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so.
And Yahweh called the expanse Sky. And the evening and then the morning were the Second Day.
8
9
Then Yahweh said: Let the earth produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds. And it was so.
And the earth produced vegetation: seed-bearing plants according to their kind and seed-bearing trees according to their kind. And Yahweh saw that it was right.
And the evening and then the morning were the Third Day.
10
11
Yahweh made two great lights-the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.
And Yahweh set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth:
To govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And Yahweh saw that it was right.
So the evening and then the morning were the Fourth Day.
12
13
Then Yahweh said: Let the waters bring forth an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky.
So Yahweh created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind; and every winged bird according to its kind. And Yahweh saw that it was fitting
14
15
And Yahweh blessed them, saying: Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.
So the evening and then the morning were the Fifth Day.
16
17
Then Yahweh said: I will make man in My image, according to My likeness; they will have rulership over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, over the cattle, and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.
So Yahweh created man in His own image. In the image of Yahweh He created the man. Then He created the woman from the man.
18
19
Then Yahweh blessed him, and Yahweh said to him: Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it: have rulership over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.
And Yahweh said: Behold, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food
20
21
Also, to every beast of the earth, to everybird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food. And it was so.
Then Yahweh saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very right. So the evening and then the morning were the Sixth Day.
22
23
Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished,
And on the Seventh Day Yahweh ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the Seventh Day from all His work which He had done.
Then Yahweh blessed the Seventh Day and set it apart to be holy, because in it He rested from all the work which Yahweh had created and made.
24
25
This is the genealogical history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that Yahweh made the earth and the heavens,
26
27
Adam And Eve
28
29
And Yahweh formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
30
31
Yahweh planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.
And out of the ground Yahweh made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight, and desirable for food. The Tree of Life was in the midst of the garden, and the Tree of the Knowledge of Righteousness and Evil was in the midst also.
32
33
Then Yahweh took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work and care for it.
And Yahweh commanded the man, saying: Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat;
But of the Tree of the Knowledge of Righteousness and Evil you must not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.
34
35
So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him.
36
37
And Yahweh caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took flesh and bone from man's side and closed up the flesh in its place.
Then the flesh and bone which Yahweh had taken from man, He made into a woman; and He brought her to the man.
And Adam said; This is now bone from my bones and flesh from my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
38
39
Now the serpent was more subtle and crafty than any beast of the field which Yahweh had made. And she said to the woman; Has Yahweh indeed said: You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
40
41
And the woman said to the serpent; We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;
But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, Yahweh has said: You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, or you will die.
42
43
And the serpent said to the woman; You will not surely die.
For He knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be as gods (elohim), knowing righteousness and evil.
44
45
So when the woman saw that the tree was desirable for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
46
47
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized that they had sinned; they had violated Yahweh's Laws. Because they had not kept Yahweh's Laws, they were afraid.
48
49
Then, on that day they heard the way of Father Yahweh according to the word of Yahweh; the Law and the Prophets, being proclaimed in the garden. So Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahweh among the trees of the garden.
50
51
Then Yahweh called to Adam and said to him: Where are you?
So Adam said; I heard the word of Yahweh being proclaimed in the garden, and I was afraid because I had sinned; and I hid myself.
And Yahweh said: Someone deceived you so that you would sin! You have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, that you should not eat!
52
53
So Yahweh said to the serpent: Because you have done this, you are bitterly cursed. I established you over all living things, and I established you over all flesh on the ground; but your ability to bring forth life from the dust will be taken away. You will go to your punishment, and you will be destroyed on that day by Yahweh, Who lives forever.
54
55
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.
To the woman He said: I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception. In pain you shall bring forth children; you must be led by your husband, for he shall rule over you.
Then to Adam He said: Because you have eeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying; You must not eat of it-- cursed will be the ground for your sake; in toil you shall eat from it h all the days of your life.
56
57
Also for Adam and his wife, Yahweh ordained linen holy garments for them to remember His Laws and He placed these garments upon them.
58
59
Then Yahweh said: Behold, the man has become like one who has begun to know righteousness and evil. And now, he must not be allowed to put out his hand and also take of the Tree of Life, and eat, and live forever.
60
61
Therefore Yahweh sent him out of the garden of Eden, to work the ground from which he was taken.
62
63
So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the Tree of Life.
64
65
NOAH'S ARK
66
67
And Yahweh said: The men of this world will never subject themselves to My word; The Law and the Prophets, for they are indeed carnally minded. Thus, their days shall be one hundred and twenty years.
68
69
Then Yahweh saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and every intent of the thoughts of man's heart was only evil, continually.
And Yahweh regretted what man had become, for man failed to keep Yahweh's Law, and man grieved Yahweh's Holy Spirit.
So Yahweh said: I will destroy man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth; both man and beast, creeping thing and bird of the air, for I am regretting what they; man, have become.
70
71
But Noah found regard and honor in the eyes of Yahweh.
These are the begettings of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his begettings. Noah walked in the reverence of Yahweh.
