Once upon a time there was a great big farm with rolling green hills and rich fertile soil where a variety of crops were grown. There was a big red barn and many animals. The best part was the house on the hill
where my Granny grew up and the
fact that I can still see it today!

Daddy is driving me in his blue convertible all the way to my favorite place in the whole wide world; my Granny's house! Well, it is my Grandpa's house too, but this farm has been in my Granny's family for five generations. Making me, Aubrey Elizabeth Hutchison, the eighth generation to enjoy this farm. And that is exactly what I plan to do this weekend, enjoy it!

Granny Lisbeth and Grandpa Earl greet me enthusiastically. They are excited to have me stay for the weekend. "How is school going, cupcake?" Grandpa Earl asks. "School is going great." I say. "I see they cannot get you out of your ballet costume." Grandma Lisbeth says. "Nope, I love it too much!" I say. "We have a little surprise for you in the living room Aubrey." Granny says.

"Natalie! Amy!" I say excited to see my cousins. "Hey Aubrey, it's so good to see you!" They say. We play dress up using old clothes as costumes and put on a thrilling play. We even dressed up Grandpa Earl's old dog Butterscotch as the villain who captures Princess Natalia the Great. Fortunately, the A team plans a daring rescue and saves the day.

Dinner is always delicious, especially at my Granny's house. Grandpa made barbecued
ribs and Granny made mashed potatoes,
green beans, salad, rolls, lemonade, and most importantly a decadent black forest cherry cake piled high with whipped cream. After dinner my cousins go home and Grandpa helps me with my homework. Then granny reads me a story and tucks me into bed.

When I awake, Granny Lisbeth greets me with her treasured checkered recipe book in hand and asks me if I want to help her make her secret recipe. Of course, I agree enthusiastically. "Yes! Yes! What are we going to bake?" I say. "A big hearty country breakfast like my Grandma use to make." Granny Lisbeth says and I cannot wait to try it.

Granny sifted flour, sugar, and baking powder then cracked an egg into a yellow mixing bowl. Then she let me pour milk into the bowl. "Now you can help me make hash browns." Granny said while handing me a grater to use on the potatoes to turn them into little flakes. Granny poured the pancake batter into the skillet and started cooking.
