Mother Raccoon and her two sons, Timmy and Tommy, were walking through the woods
one day. Mother saw her friend Fox. Mother
wanted to talk to Fox so she left her two
sons playing in the meadow.

While playing in the meadow, Timmy and Tommy stumbled upon a tree stump
beholding an apple. The tree stump was
very close to Fox's home so it must belong
to her."I bet this apple is Fox's," Timmy said."It looks very delicious and I'm so hungry.
If Fox wanted it she would have
eaten it by now," Tommy said. Timmy and Tommy agreed that Fox
wouldn't mind if they ate the apple.

Mother Raccoon and Fox returned to themeadow where Timmy and Tommy had
just finished off the delicious apple. Fox
noticed her apple was eaten!Fox exclaimed, "Where did
my apple go? It looked so delicious
and I wanted to share it with you!"Timmy and Tommy exchanged
a look of guilt but said, "We don't
know where the apple went."Fox sadly left the meadow.

Mother Raccoon studied the faces of Timmy and Tommy and noticed their moist
lips."Are you sure you don't know
where the apple went," Mother
Raccoon asked."No ma'am. We have no idea.
Nobody was around here today,"
Timmy and Tommy replied.

"Well that's too bad because Foxwas planning on making us apple
pie. But now she is to upset to
even think about making us
anything."Suddenly overcome with
guilt Timmy said, "Tommy,
I told you we shouldn't have
eaten that apple! Now we don't
get pie!"

Tommy looked at Timmyand said, "But the apple just
looked so delicious!"Mother Raccoon interjected, "I cannot believe
you boys ate the apple and then lied about it!
You made Fox sad when she was so excited to
make apple pie for us! Now she can't!"

7

Timmy and Tommy sighedand said, "We're sorry Mother.
We didn't mean to lie. We just
didn't want to get in trouble."Mother raccoon said, "Boys, lying is worse
than the terrible act itself. If you would have
just told Fox it was you who ate her apple,
I'm sure she would have forgiven you."

8

Mother Raccoon took Timmy andTommy to Fox's house to apologize. On
the way there they found an apple tree and
decided to bring one to Fox.
Timmy and Tommysaid, "Fox, we're sorry
we ate your apple and lied
about it. We brought you
another apple. Can you
forgive us?"Fox said, "Of course I
forgive you. Just don't lie
ever again. For telling me
the truth, I think I will make
you an apple pie!"

Tommy and Timmy decided that honestyis the best policy.
