In a land far far away, there lived a king and queen who had a 10 year old daughter named Layla. She had red hair, and emerald green eyes. Layla loved to be outside, but she was lonely because she didn't have any friends that she could play with. Layla wanted a friend who would go on adventures with her. 

One afternoon, Layla was walking in the forest when she came to a clearing. In the middle of the clearing, there was a really big egg with blue swirly designs on the shell. Layla decided to bring the egg home with her because she saw that it didn't have a mama to keep it warm. Layla knew that if an egg didn't stay warm, then the baby inside wouldn't hatch and be born.

Layla carefully picked up the egg, and walked home. Since Layla knew every inch of the castle, she was able to get herself and the egg safely inside, and to her room. Layla was able to sneak inside without being noticed by any of the castle servants who were working. Once Layla got to her room, she placed the egg on a chair and made a nest for it on the floor next to her bed using extra pillows and blankets.

When Layla was done making the nest of blankets, she took the egg off the chair and placed it on its new nest. Layla then covered it with blankets to keep the egg warm. Layla laid next to the egg to make sure it stayed warm. She slowly closed her eyes, and fell fast asleep.

Layla woke up to a cracking sound, and felt something moving next to her. It took her a few seconds to figure out that the egg was hatching. Layla quickly sat up, and uncovered the egg and saw that the egg had cracks all over the shell. After a few minutes of watching the egg, it finally hatched.

Since Layla was only 10, she didn’t know what kind of egg she had brought home, but once the egg hatched she found out that the creature inside the egg was a baby dragon. The baby dragon had white eyes and blue scales with red spikes down his head, back, and tail. Layla slowly stood up and backed away from the egg, but once the baby dragon saw Layla, he walked to where she was standing. The baby dragon just stared at her with his big white eyes.

Layla was scared. She had heard stories about dragons, and how they were evil and mean. But when she looked at the baby dragon, she noticed that he didn't look mean or scary at all. He was actually really cute, and he looked friendly. Layla slowly reached out her hand to the baby dragon and touched his head. Just after she touched the baby dragon, he made a noise like a cat does when it purrs. Only this sound was higher pitched.
