Polar Bears live in an Arctic climate. In the winter, temperatures in the Arctic are usually around minus 29 degrees F and can reach as low as minus 92 degrees F. Burrr that's cold!

Polar Bears are pretty big creatures. They can weigh between 800 to 1,300 pounds and 3 to 9 feet in length.

Polar bears depend on sea ice as a platform to hunt seals, sleep and breed on. For over than 20 years the summer sea ice has been getting smaller and melting longer because of climate change . The Bears have move longer distances to stay with the ice.

Female polar bears give birth to their cubs in snow dens where the family is protected from the harsh Arctic environment. At birth, the cubs are only around 30 cm long and weigh around half a kilogram - that's about the same as a guinea pig!

Other than humans , a natural enemy of the Polar Bear is the Walrus. They get into fights over food. Sometimes on the ice , sometimes in the cold waters.

Foot pads of a polar bears’ paws are a “non-slip” surface allowing them run and play on slippery ice.

Polar Bear mothers are very loving and caring with their young. When they aren't teaching the cubs new things , they can be found playing on the ice.

Polar Bears species name is maritimus , which means "Sea Bear".

Polar Bear mothers nurse their cubs for 30 weeks. She provides them with nutritious milk that helps them to grow very quickly, and in a few months, they'll be able to eat solid food.

Some Polar Bears are omnivores , that means they eat meat and plants. In some Arctic regions , green grass grows and polar bears eat it along with their regular diet of seals.

is for Population

The Polar Bear population is between 22,000 and 31,000. But because of climate change their population has decreased by 40%!
