The first Improvement Initiative is the Alabama Reading Initiative. This initiative is solely based on literacy. For elementary schoolers, the purpose is to strengthen reading instructions. It also helps expand reading power and create an intervention for students that are struggling readers.

Wow, that's cool. So it basically helps each student, K-12, meet the required grade-level standards by providing them with the literacy skills they need.

Yes! The next Improvement Initiative is the Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative. This is hands-on education and helps improve math and science teachers across the state of Alabama.

The third Improvement Initiative is the Alabama Learning Exchange. This digital education website is specific for teacher in Alabama. It includes course of study standards, lesson plans, and even learning activities.

That website seems very useful for Alabama teachers. What about the fourth Improvement Initiative?

The fourth Improvement Initiative is the Alabama Connecting Classroom, Educators, and Students Statewide. The purpose of this is to provide distance learning. By this, I mean providing students with classroom courses and teachers through technology.

That's awesome! Students can get the same education, but instead of in person, they are learning through a computer.

The last Improvement Initiative is the Alabama Virtual Library. This website is free for any Alabama resident. It is online access to essential library and information resources, including the collection of journal, newspaper, and magazine databases. The purpose is to raise the level of excellence to all Alabama residents.
