The ABC's of high school book, is a project for
Mrs. Dempsey's English class. This book will tell Freshman how to survive high school, hopefully.
Good Luck New Freshmen Class!

is for Absent
A is for Absent! Remember, if you are absent, you need to have a parent call the school. If you miss too much of class, you'll have a ton of homework. Make sure to always get a note for your absence, or you'll be unexcused.

is for Books

B is for books! Books are very helpful! Be sure to always have a book with you, especially for English class. You'll need at least one every day. If you have free time you can always read in class, or do other homework if you procrastinate the night before.

is for Chair

C is for chair. The chairs at school are hard. If you don't sit just right, they will make your back and legs hurt. It's especially rough when you have to take finals.

is for Desk

D is for desks. The desks are small, so if you're a boy or a really tall girl you'll have to squeeze into the desk. Also, the space on top is very small. So don't pack around a bunch of unnecessary things.
is for Excitement

E is for excitement! Your school year will be full of excitement. That may mean a new friend, a homecoming date, or even simple things like doughnuts in class. Either way, you'll enjoy the excitement that buzzes around school!

is for Food

F is for food. The cafeteria has good food, depending on what you get that is. If you get the sandwiches every day that can get expensive! Bosco sticks are great too!
is for Grades

G is for grades. Your grades are important. If you don't do your homework, your grades will end up being D's or F's. You also might not have time to make those assignments up, so make sure to get them done on time. Study for the tests, don't just blow them off. Your grades are important for college, even Freshman year's grades.

is for Homework

H is for homework. You might have a lot of it at times, but do it anyway. Plan ahead of time, and work on things before they're due, not in your first hour class.
is for Initiate

I is for initiate. Initiate a conversation with someone even if you don't know them. You might have a new friend by the end of the day, and if not then you have another connection with someone.

is for Journals

J is for journals. These might sound uninteresting or annoying to write, but believe it or not you might have to write a few. Especially in English. They can help you express yourself.

is for Knowledge

K is for knowledge. Throughout the years, you'll feel like you've learned nothing at all. However, that isn't the case. You've actually learned a lot and you might not realize it until your senior year of high school, or even later. So if you feel this way now, wait until later. Your knowledge will expand throughout high school.

is for Listen

L is for listen! If the teacher is talking, you need to listen. Chances are, he or she will not repeat it. You could miss an extra credit opportunity or something important for class and they might not bring it up again until it's too late.
is for Mentor

M is for mentor. You will find at least one teacher who you get along with well. They will probably be your favorite teacher. Therefore, you might look up to them. If not a teacher, then someone in your class or a grade above you. Anyway, it's a good thing to have.
is for Novice

N is for novice. You will be a new-bee in school. However, eventually you will fall into place with everyone else. Don't be intimidated by the upperclassmen. Typically they will befriend you as well.

is for Organize

O is for organized. Don't be a mess like the picture on the right, keep things neat. If you keep your books and folders labeled, it is easier to find your homework and things you need for class, rather than digging through your locker frantically.
is for Practice

P is for practice. If you don't practice, you can't improve. It is important to practice things outside of class so you retain the knowledge. That doesn't mean write a paper every night after school. It just means to take 10-20 minutes out of your day to practice for school.
