For Ms.Guajardo's 2A and 3B Biology class (her favorite class)

There are 4 heroic macromolecules that are part of the Macrovengers. Carbohydrate America, Lipid Widow, Protein Hulk, and Nucleic Thor Acid.

Carbohydrate America helps give you energy and store energy, you cant fight villains without energy! He also stores energy just in case you decide not to eat (which is not a very smart idea to decide not to eat).

Carbohydrate America, just like all the other macromolecules is made up of monomers(or polymers). The monomer that makes up Carbohydrate America is saccharides. Theres monosaccharides, disaccharides, and even polysaccharides! To get a disaccharide you combine two monosaccharides through dehydration synthesis. Dehydration synthesis is just like what it sounds taking away water. To get a better understanding, here are two pictures of Carbohydrate America in action:

We already know that dehydration synthesis is the process to combine a monomer with more monomers but what if you wanna take them apart?

If you wanna take them apart then all you have to do is add the water back! This is called hydrolisis!

The next macrovenger is lipid widow!
Lipid widow is a made up of fatty acids. Lipid Widow's job is to insulate the body and cushion the organs. Another of her jobs is to also store energy (just in case Carbohydrate America isn't doing a great job). Lipids can become phospholipids when the bond with glycerol and 2 fatty acids. Phospholipids are SUPER important because they make up the cell membrane (In case you didnt already know, cell membranes are really important).

Then one day, everything was going fine with Lipid Widow until the villian decide to make an evil clone of her! Now there was TWO lipid widows!! How were the rest of the macrovengers going to know which one is which? Then just at the right moment, the macrovengers had an idea! The normal Lipid widow was classified as an unsaturated fat (the good fats). Then the evil clone of Lipid Widow was classified as a saturated fat (the bad fats). Even though they were both lipids one was an unsaturated fat and the other one was a saturated fat.

The next super hero that is part of the macrovengers is Protein Hulk. Protein Hulk helps with the immune system and with muscle development (as you can see he has some pretty big muscles himself) His monomers are amino acids. If less than 50 amino acids are present, he is considered a peptide. Polypeptides are more than 3 amino acids put together through dehydration synthesis.

Protein Hulk has 2 main structures, both secondary structures. One of them is the alpha helix and the other one is a beta pleated sheet. There is also a primary structure, tertiary structure, and quaternary structure.

The last of the macrovengers is Nucleic Thor Acid. His monomer is a nucleotide. He only has TWO polymers RNA and DNA. His only 2 jobs is to store genetic information and making protein. The bonds that take place in a nucleic acid is a hydrogen bond.

The 4 macrovengers and the functions of each one all come together to keep you alive. Each needed for your survival and once again they have saved the day!
